PHILADELPHIA PPM RESULTS FOR DECEMBER 2009

Being the only Christmas game in town nets B-101 a 12.9 share. Wow. And this is only through 12/9.

Big jump for Wired, big drop for WIP.

WPEN AM and FM both down. Total share for both at only a 2.0, down from 2.8 in November. There are at least 235,000 people who listened to WIP but didn't listen to WPEN even once.

WYSP's TSL must be terrible. They actually have slightly higher cume than WMMR, but much lower share (a 4.2 for MMR versus a 2.4 for YSP). Cume could be because of Eagles games, but they are not driving listening during the rest of the week.

Unless you are Disney or nickleodeon, 6+ matters to NO ONE! Last book was the best numbers for WYSP in their target demo. Good thing (?) Only the spin masters can tell for sure ;D

Following a tradition begun in 1963 B101's all Christmas music tops the ratings again.

Except that they haven't been playing six-plus weeks of all Christmas music since 1963.

As with most radio programming it's evolved. They don't still play exactly the same tunes either.
Does any station?

Some observations from an ex-Philadelphian who hasn't looked at Philly ratings in a while:

Interesting that WISX did not improve due to WBEB's change to all Christmas. I know the programming has always raised a few eyebrows from those that are familar with other Rhythmic/AC stations, but a quick look at the playlist still brings up a few questionable titles- Motown, Taylor Swift, etc. What do I know, but it could be that they are skewing older to minimize the detriment to sister WIOQ.

Great book for CHR, with both stations increasing cume. I don't know how long this trend has been going on, but both CHR stations beat the urban contemporary stations (WUSL and WPHI). WUSL used to have quite a stronghold in this market.

I continue to be impressed with WRFF. Absolutely a great move by Clear Channel. It's been a very long time since 104.5 has been relevant in this market.

Radio One must be operating on extremely tight margins these days.

WPHT is tanking! Wow, that is a gigantic hit! I guess the Phillies are the only thing that station has going for it?

Maybe if WPHT just increases the frequency of the RESQ Healthline with Paul Perello infomercial they will increase their ratings!
