Any thoughts on the numbers and what stands out to you?

Yes! WPHT is up about 22% over the July book, and giving its best showing all year.

So there is N.O. N.E.E.D. to comment further on future changes in that station at this time.

I am not happy. The numbers will go down once the election is over. I will never listen to radio again and 1210 is the reason why.

Analogy: There is a pseudo-standards station in the market I am in. I cringe when I hear Sinatra, puke when I hear Patti Page and vomit when I hear Vic Damone. I can't say vehemently enough how little I like that kind of music. But that does not keep me from listening to other stations in the market that do and play things I enjoy; I just avoid the one I don't like.

In Spanish, we have a saying "para los gustos se hicieron los colores" and it means "colors were created to satisfy all manner of tastes".

Just don't listen; were the station to change format, it would likely end up with something far less appealing such as religion (WPEN, WFIL) or in a language other than English.

Its really sad and somewhat prejudiced to put down greats like Frank, Dean, Perry, Vic, Patty and that great era of singers. I guess you prefer Julio Iglesias,
Gloria Estefan and Vicente Fernandez to Elvis, Ricky, Frankie, Annette and Leslie...

Not liking a certain musical style isn't prejudice, it's personal taste. If he'd said he couldn't stand Sinatra, Damone and any other Italian-American singers because they're all controlled by the mob, then yes, that would be prejudice. But just saying you don't like singers who perform in the style typical of American popular music in the 1930s and 1940s is just an expression of preference. I don't get the appeal of jazz and don't like to listen to it. It doesn't make me prejudiced against jazz performers. I'm simply a guy who doesn't like jazz.

Well I find it offensive using the term puke defining a singer and their music, the prejudice showed its ugly head, how about if I said Spanish singers like Pit Bull or Ricky Martin make me puke...or rappers make me puke, then I know the word racist would be used...just the facts.

That's not racist. That's personal musical taste. So I wouldn't suggest a new rap song for you to listen to. I don't like rap music either. It's not my personal taste. That doesn't make me a racist.

I did not "define" any singer in the way you suggest. I stated that my reaction to the music that those singers recorded and performed makes me react in a form worse than were I to hear fingernails being scraped across a blackboard.

It's called "taste".

Some find Dalí and Picasso to be among the best artists of the last century, while others think their work is trite, unappealing and not even worthy of being called art. While others think that Andy Warhol hung the moon, while Monet, Pissaro and Sisley are too vague and ill-defined.

It's called "taste".

And my point for Jul is that not all radio stations will ever be to his liking. He will hate some, not like others, tolerate still others and love one or two perhaps. But those stations will not be the same ones an assortment of other people will like or dislike.

So you don't like rap and hip hop. Lots of people don't. Many do.

Again, it's called "taste".

P.S. Pitbull and Ricky Martin's big hits have been in English and neither is from Spain. They are American singers.

See, you are jumping to conclusions.

I had to ask the record label guy from Alhambra Records to stop inviting me to Julio's shows in Puerto Rico as he is, for me, a boring performer with no stage presence.

Gloria Estefan used to sing at remotes for a station I managed in Miami when they were just starting out. I've never been wild about MSM and their music.

I like a couple of Vicente's songs, but none are in my MP3 collection.

My personal favorites are George Strait, Garth Brooks, Rubén Blades, Raphy Leavitt, Buddy Holly, Carlos Vives, Pitbull, Luis Fonsi, Gente de Zona, The Rolling Stones, The Four Seasons and dozens of others.

And the ones you mention are nowhere on my list. And I even have to guess who "Leslie" is. Gore? Really?

Again, it's personal taste!

I think it was the Osmonds who said "One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch."

I thought that the line had changed to "bye bye, stubborn belly fat!"

Nothing wrong with Gloria Estefan. :)

But what kind of racist-tinged drivel is this inane comment? (Never mind, it's rhetorical given past history,)

And I even have to guess who "Leslie" is. Gore? Really?

Must be someone else. After all, a real fan would know she spelled her first name "Lesley," right?

My puzzlement is over the inclusion of "Annette"? Funicello? A mediocre, to put it kindly, actress, and a bad joke of a singer? That Annette? Gee, why isn't Edd "Kookie" Byrnes in that illustrious grouping, too?

I really never thought I'd see a day when WBEB was #4! (Of course, if you'd told me 20 years ago that KYW would one day rank #8, I'd have tried to have you institutionalized.) It's so odd that this started just as Jerry Lee let go. It'd be one thing if they dropped down the rankings just because another station saw a big increase. But in this instance, it went along with WBEB themself seeing a very significant drop. The station isn't gonna be "hurting" any time soon but 8.5 - 7.8 - 6.5 - 6.3 is a worrying trend for sure. Have there been any changes to the station's library or on-air presentation?

Same question for WOGL: Has anything changed on-air? I'd love having a 7.0 I wouldn't be happy having it come after a 7.7 - 8.2 - 7.5 trend.

WPHT rising on a 1.5 - 1.6 - 1.7 - 2.2 - 2.5 - 2.8 trend! (Poke, poke, growl.)

Can someone remind me again why WTDY exists? I know we've discussed it before; I just can't recall right now.

I'm assuming as a package-sell. CHR on WTDY. AC on WBEB. Wanna hit a ton of females? Buy both!

That's the only thing I could come up with as well! I would be so uncomfortable working at a station like WTDY though. Job security is bad enough in this industry without knowing that my station is just a flanker.
