Philadelphia Radio Should Be Creative And Try Something Different

For the life of me, can someone out there please explain to me why both B101 WBEB FM and WJBR 99.5 FM will only play the Singers and Standards music only during December at Christmas time, and no other time of the year? You would think that at least one of these stations would want to switch over to the format that WEZW FM 93.1 in Wildwood, N.J. is using? The Singers and Standards sound deserves to be played all year round, not just at Christmas time. If WBEB can play Jimmy Durante, Perry Como Andy Williams, and Frank Sinatra at Christmas time, why not play them all year round? If WJBR can play the Christy Minstrells and Andy Williams at Christmas time, why not play them all year round? I just don't understand the logic behind this? Can someone please explain it to be?

I know one reason....it's meant to put people in the holiday mood, to get them to participate in the holiday by parting with their cash, nothing to do with the birth of Christ. There is such a huge untapped archive of music out there, that when played, listeners jaws would drop. When I play rare 1950's r&b cuts, the e-mail I receive is amazing. The response isn't just from North America, but from all over the would. But it's OK, because all terrestrial radio is doing is handing over more listeners to internet stations.

The Christmas season is the only time of the year you will hear Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Tony Bennett and Dean Martin on 98 percent of terrestrial radio. Come 6PM or so on Christmas Day, B101 and so may other AC or Hot AC stations that went all Christmas will neatly segue from Bing and Frank to Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

I'm a little tired of Christmas music at this point but it is still nice to hear those great standards singers. It's a shame this is the only time of the year you can hear them.
