Philadelphia Radio Songs That Make You Cringe

Even the best Philly radio stations have those pesky songs, the ones that stick around month after month after month, even though you can't conceive any purpose they can possibly serve for that particular station. This isn't meant to flame any station specifically, but is just a fun way to vent about the songs that truly make us cringe. This is all my uneducated opinion. I'm sure PDs can simply rebut with callout numbers, but like I said...all in fun.

Here's what we're NOT talking about:

(a) Currents or recent (say, a year old or less) recurrents.
(b) Songs that have justified spots on a station's playlist, but make you cringe because you simply have a personal dislike for them.

Here's what we ARE talking about:

(a) Songs that have stuck around ENTIRELY too long and have earned a prolonged rest period, or at least should move into a less prominent category.
(b) Songs that stick out like a sore thumb on a respective station (not a hit, doesn't fit the station's overall sound, etc.)
(c) Overplayed "classic" songs.

How about the entire WOGL playlist??? More specifically "Build Me Up Buttercup," "This Old Heart of Mine," "Unchained Melody," "More Today Than Yesterday"

Everything on B101 is trash.

And I listen to WISX - Mix 106.1

Which sounds like Q102 anyway. Mostly 2005-2012 songs on it.

What makes good music is in the ear of the beholder. One person's music is another person's noise.

The bigger question is since this is about radio and not just personal preferences, the demos the advertisers want, what songs pull in THOSE listeners since that is the actual purpose of a radio station. As B-101 is top of the heap in Philly as WJBR is in Wilmington both essentially play the same songs. The music both B-101 and WJBR play I personally consider to be bland vanilla FM chick AC music. Yet both are tops in their respective markets. So they must be appealing to enough of the demos their advertisers want. So even though I never listen to those stations, they must be playing good music for the correct people. After all, that is the name of that game. WOGL is another example. I never listen as I don't like their mix of "oldies". I find better oldies stations online, so I go there when I want some real solid gold. But apparently enough of the demo their advertisers want do listen giving WOGL great ratings for an oldies/greatest hits type station and plenty of local spots.

Weird that those are the only 60's songs OGL even plays these days.

This may be a short term situation, but why does WOGL play "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong so much. I'm sick of it, enough!!

In rotation on WOGL-HD2 (all-70's) is the late Minnie Riperton's "Loving You." Be grateful you don't own an HD radio every time that track comes on...

@FrozenFire: How can you forget OGL's "Fab Four At 4"! (Do they still do that bit? If not, there's still about a couple hundred other stations that still do something to that extent...)

Fun Fact: Minnie Riperton was Mya Rudolph's (SNL) mother.

On WOGL, "Do Wah Diddy" by Manfred Mann. Please, no more.

Sure would be nice if they swapped in "Pretty Flamingo" and "The Mighty Quinn" at least some of the time.

Minnie Riperton had a great voice, but that turkey from 1975 is the only song that you will hear on any mainstream AC, oldies, or classic hits station. To hear her good songs, you have to listen to WDAS-FM or WRNB. I guess her music was "too black" for the other stations.

Yes, they still do that bit, but it's been cut to 3 songs and usually at least one is a solo post-beatles song.
