Philadelphia's Best-known DJ

Is Wired actually referring to their impending morning host, (BLEEP!), as "Philadelphia's Best-known DJ"? If so, that would lead me to believe Chio is not the person coming on board. LOL. I mean, we all know that radio is nothing but smoke & mirrors ("request" lines anyone?) but they can't possibly be seriously referring to him as Philadelphia's best-known!

Regardless of whether Chio is their new morning guy (and the only part of it that interests me is how much Beasley paid Clear Channel to kill the non-compete), it raises an interesting question and I will now pose that question to you all:

<font size="6">Who is Philadelphia's best-known DJ? If you'd like, you can give a "best-known Philly jock of all time" and a "best-known Philly jock of the sad modern era."</font size>

I'll pass on the sad modern era... that in itself says it all. But for best-known Philly jock of all time, I'd probably have to go with the late Joe Niagara. Not only did he raise teenagers on rock & roll during the '50s & '60s, he also played the great standards for our parents in his later years, thereby claiming recognition from two distinct and vastly different radio audiences.

Of strictly local guys (Stern doesn't count), all time best known I'd say Dick Clark, obviously. Today, it's probably DeBella, for good or for bad, with Barsky in close contention (again for good or bad).

I'll give you that. Locally, Joe Niagara is loved by multiple generations. The heart and soul of the old Wibbage.

The exact quote is "Come and support ONE OF PHILDELPHIA'S BEST KNOW DJ'S"...and the follow up to that, CHIO IS a VERY well known dj, especially on Q102, right next to Joe Mamma and Glenn Kalina...sure as hell not Bitchie Bitch

Unclench! I was using the phrase as a tongue-in-cheek way to start a conversation about who everyone thinks Philly's best-known jock is/was. Geesh!

What? Hy Lit is coming out of semi-retirement? George Michael is giving up the Sports Machine and moving back to Philly? Joe Niagara is coming back from the grave?

Serioiusly, all these DJ's mentioned hardly qualify as the best know Philly DJ. Today's tight formatting doesnt' even allow them to display much of a personality on air. Which is, indeed, sad.

lol funny yes....true no.... Wired is not a hip-hop station...

beasley didn't have to pay to get chio out of his non-compete....

Chio is ONE of Philly's best known Radio DJ's ..maybe not best known in the history of Philly but for his demo he is for sure if you really think differently then you just dont know much about radio.....also no need to dwell too much on the past ...it's the future that we can actually do something about and right now the future of Chio and Wired looks great!

Love your show!<P ID="signature">______________

And IF he tanks, will you come back on here and admit it. If he does better than many expect, and brings in listeners like he did during his heyday at Q, will ED_BEAL_RAP_KING from New England come back and admit he was wrong?

Time will tell. Good luck with your new show next week.
