Philips isn't taking calls today

Philips who is still raving he quit XM, isn't taking calls today. Philips said he is putting basically a caller id in place. He won't take calls until this system is working.

He said he doesn't want people on air that is going to waste his time or the show's time. Some of these callers wanted to debate Philips and some wanted just to swear. He wouldn't debate any of them and now he has to install caller id to aid his screeners.

He is also threatening massive lawyer activity and that Eric Logan doesn't have the jewels to pull the plug on him. What a worthless host. I can't wait until he gets dumped in the XM 152 lineup change.

they've had caller ID in the WTKS RealRadio 104.1 studio since 1998. They have a hard-drive dedicated to every call that comes in on the talk lines. I'm sure it has the ability to store a decade of calls, given the capacity of today's hard drives. In 1998 it could hold up to two years. Its all a bluff

Well he claimed a system was being put in place to pull up everyone's numbers. If a system like that is already in place, then it seems he is bluffing yetagain

Sounds like good radio! Philips tell a good story and add to it for the drama.
all to keep you listening. Most of what he says is bull.

Well I hope Philips doesn't stake anything on his spike in ratings for the period in time that O&A fans are listening because the spike will drop as soon as the issue is over. I only listened to his show because of the controversy and will stop listening once it is over. Philips' show is horrendous

That's proof enough that this is all staged on Philips' part. I know for a fact they already have a pretty extensive caller ID system in their studios.

Yeah, Wireless Fan below said that they have had a caller_id in place since 98. Philips is either playing a ploy to get some more listeners and attention or he is jsut blowing another day of b.s.

He has been caught in so many b.s. lies within the last few days that even if I was a die hard listener I would think twice about listening to him any more

i must clarify, although he is no longer the talk host that i used to know and love, he is still VERY successful, dominating in the 25-54 demos, he is usually #1... and he blows all the stations out of the water when it comes to male numbers. He beats Sean Hannity... as for the hours he has shared with Rush over the years, he has always beaten him soundly... ALWAYS! Jim Philips is an institution in Orlando.

yes, philips is bluffing, but in the interest of building up controversy where there is none... he's baiting the O&A listeners to keep it going. for the most part, philips' fans don't even know who O&A are. Philips only pulls crap like he's doing now in order to get the last laugh... and he will. these days, i think his show is boring, but he's no dummy, he's also ready to retire at anytime, quite comfortably, i might add.

Umm... mega dittos.

;-)

Philips once left a pay stub out on his desk and I happened to come across it - this was about 7 or 8 years ago, back before they moved into the Maitland offices. Let me just tell you that he could have probably retired quite comfortably then. Yowza. Yow-freakin-za.

This is all, probably, better for O&A than for Philips. O&A have been a major bust for XM.

You have any proven numbers to back that up? It's funny how people who don't like O&A say they have been a major bust yet they are still on every single day. Major busts for XM have typically either been dropped altogether or moved to strictly internet only.

If their numbers are SO horrendous, why would it be fiscally feasible for XM to keep 2 high priced jocks on air?

Until you have the numbers, your statement holds no water what-so-ever

Yeah Casey! How dare you suggest that O&A aren't the best things to ever happen to radio! They are, without question, the most succesful, original, and entertaining show to ever grace any airwaves anywhere! And if you suggest otherwise, you're just jealous! They've never stolen a bit or anything, and any bit they've ever done is now owned by them and no other host should ever do anything resembling it or else the wrath of their sheep - I mean listeners - will be unleashed upon them in the form of... phone calls. And other things, I'm sure, but mainly phone calls. Silly, juvenile phone calls.

So watch it man! The 'army' is always on alert!

Sorry, man. I did not mean to insult your masters. O&A are perfect in every way, shape, and form. Even though, their move to XM was trumped by Stern's announcement that he was going to Sirius, and the fact that the only way they can get any attention for themselves is by using (please note that I did not say "rippping off") tired, old bits that have been around for years and years.

But, no, really, they are the best thing ever to happen to XM. Just ask anyone who works there.

If they're so damn successful, why is the what was once originally a premium channel they are on offered for FREE now? And what else do you hear about them in the news besides what they did on radio, and what their 'army' does to other hosts now? Hell, if it wasn't for this thread, most of the readers of this board wouldn't even be thinking about them.

'They're going so fast, we're practically giving them away!'

No problem Mr. Sarcasm. They aren't my masters, btw. Stern trumped the announcement through his radio show and Sirius promotion. O&A didn't get Stern's level of promotion via XM. That was a contention of O&A until recently.

Not to tip the apple cart of your master Mr. Philips. He did admit about stealing bits on his show though.

For the billionth time...XM raised their overall price to bring in more revenue and they brought it as high as Sirius' price. O&A WERE NOT THE ONLY PRICE DROP. The only extra pay service XM has now is PLAYBOY and for obvious reasons. I am a fan of O&A but if tey bumped up to $13 AND I had to pay an extra $2 or 3 for O&A, I'd even think of dropping it.

If Sirius adds a premium price for Stern on top of their $13 a month it will be a test in itself. XM's pay for O&A, and the internet, etc was with a $9.99 monthly fee.

XM gets the extra money which allowed them to free O&A (paying their contracts AND opening them up to a much wider audience) as well as paying for the broadband that is eaten up from XM internet streaming. They jacked up their price and released everything but Playboy, period. It also is giving them a ton more cash for R&D. They are releasing more deals and items than Sirius.

Casey, this isn't the first time you've attempted and failed to call out O&A.

There seems to be some residual bitterness left over, consdering that you and Scott went head to head with them when they were on WNEW? C'mon. Be a little objective and stop with the unneccessary trashing.

I'm an O&A fan, but I didn't like the Phillips Phile trashing. One or two days is fine to get your point across, but it wasn't needed to be dragged out like that.

I'm not "calling out" O&A. I wish them nothing but the best. I don't do the same kind of show that they do, so there is no competition. Philips makes sense. They do the same thing. Also, we did not go head to head. They were on in NYC, where they beat us, and we were on in New Jersey, where we beat them. There was no competition. In fact, I have nothing against them, at all. It's the people who think that they invented radio, and are responsible for every stunt that has ever happened. Trust me, the more money that they make, the more money the rest of us can make.

Philips isn't my master. Though, he did kick my shows ass, all over Orlando, when we were on against him, 8 years ago. I think that would make me more of his bitch, than him my master......At least, I think.

Aren't message boards fun?
