PHILLY ARBITRON PPM RATINGS RELEASED: NOVEMBER 2010

Lots of change at the top, not in rank but in share and cume.

KYW up. B-101 up. WDAS down. All significantly.

Q102 up slightly but opening up a huge lead over Wired 96.5 with a 5.0 to their 3.4. Wonder what it is.

PHT down half a point. Probably due to the Phillies season ending during this period. I expect an even bigger drop next book. YSP, predictably, up now that football season has started.

RFF continues to slip. Nice solid growth for WRNB.

But I think the biggest story is WPEN-AM-FM. The FM is up to a 2.4, which itself is higher than NOW was when it flipped. And even the AM is up to a 0.8. The combined 3.2 share is not far behind WIP's 4.0.

Also, web streams for WIP (0.2), WPHT (0.1) and WPEN (0.1) made the ratings.

The new identity doesn't appear to be helping WISX, dipping under a 3 share and 900,000 cume... nor does that "jelly radio" thing seem to be working for them, either...

The "November" book ended on the 11th. WISX didn't change their identity until the 15th. I doubt we'll see much of a change at all though. Musically they're still the same, and I have seen nothing for promotion/advertising the change other than a digital billboard on 76.

Q102 is really pulling ahead of Wired now. I'd be curious to see what the 18-34 numbers are (that's more what matters for CHR), but I have to imagine that Q might be beating Wired there too.

Hip-hop just isn't "in" anymore. It's time for Wired to move towards pop/dance. Their playlist is just bad lately -- they are adding so many recurrents and gold which make the station sound stale in comparison to Q102. It's ashame because the DJs are much better on Wired.

Musically, WISX started their shift in music in July and pretty much ended in October. So clearly their "new sound" isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. The next book will have their name change and new imaging. Again, I'm not expecting their ratings to change much at all. The station is still a disaster musically, though I admit they have tightened up a bit in the past few weeks... we'll see.

Both WUSL & WPHL-FM continue their downward fall in the ratings. Only a few years ago both were in the top 10...well atleast power was, and now the beat is getting beat by wpen-fm. I'm telling you to all those people who think clearchannel is gonna flip radio 1045 because its rating have been falling, don't be suprised if they're not looking at power. Just because its a heritage station don't mean jack to them. It cost more, and has lower ratings then rff. Still, i'm not saying its going anywhere.

Just read All Access. According to their Philly PPM analysis, Q102 is now beating Wired 18-34. Q is #1 while Wired slips all the way to #3....

CC might flip one of its FMs to another music format, but they're not putting talk on FM. WPHT's 3.5 rating during and immediately before one of the biggest conservative elections routs in recent history, combined with its dumping of Beck and Hannity, shows what's going on here: weak audience numbers for both hosts in the Philly market.

Here is what is going to happen to Beck and Hannity: CC is going to try to get Salem to put them on WNTP. As Salem has in other large markets, they may only clear two out of the three hours of each show in order to cram into 6 am to midnight their own talk hosts and the two from CC. Beck and Hannity are probably getting better ratings than the Salem hosts on 990 during the same time periods, but Salem wants a Philly clearance for its own network talk shows. Go to Salem's corporate website, click on its other top-10 market conservative talk station links and see what Salem does when they have talk hosts on their station schedules other than those from Salem: some shows only get aired for two hours a day.

If Salem doesn't even want Beck and Hannity in Philly, you're looking at CC making a hard decision: Putting them on low power suburban AMs (and possibly paying to put them there) or flipping Rumba to talk.

Right now, 1210 has NO local talk hosts on from 6 am to 6 pm. With the new schedule in January, it will have eight hours of local talk from 5 a.m. to 6 pm each day. That's eight hours when they won't have to clear anyone else's network commercials and they can sell 18 minutes (or more) an hour themselves. Why hang on to low rated network talk hosts during which you have to give up several minutes of each hour to the network commercials?

Philly has never been a strong market for syndicated conservative talk hosts. They were the last top 10 market to clear Rush, and also one of the last in the entire top 100 markets.

Man i have to say Power99 a station i have listen to and grown up with has really been diving in ratings...I think its time for them to Rebuild this station to get it movin back up..... what do u guys think is going on here.......

I dont see Power being switched but hey u never know this days..also What could they possibly switch it to....

I feel that 104.5, 98.9, 100.3, 106.1 are the stations that might have a format change.

I want 104.5 to tweak it's format to a hard rock/alternative hybrid ( ex. Disturbed, Godsmack, Metallica,Slipknot with bands like Death Cab, Coldplay, Postal Service, Silversun Pickups, Muse etc. ). Or bring back the old Y-100. They should stay away from anything before 1990 and play new music often.

I don't know what will happen to 106.1

We don't need so many Urban and Rythmic CHR's. Four stations play almost all the same music ( 96.5, 98.9, 100.3 and 102.1 ).
cut one or two of them. I wouldn't mind Rumba back on fm on one of those stations.

I hate to break it to you but Q102 does not share much with Power or The Beat.

Q102 is a straight up mainstream CHR. Power and The Beat are Urban.
