Philly DX'ing on 2/21

I turned on WNTP a little while ago to get ready for Savage and they're running a game. I figured I'd catch Lyin' Al the Lib (that's Lionel to most people, but I can't help the way New Yawkas talk) for a while on WOR instead, but they too are running a game.

On the way back up the dial I hit News/Talk 810 WGY from Albany, NY. Never heard of this station and have never come across it on my Grundig. It's coming in like a Philly station and has been loud and clear for close to an hour.

Anyone ever come across this station? I'm up and down the AM dial frequently at night and this station is a new one for me.

As it turns out, they're running Savage.

WGY is a big, non-directional 50kw AM station in Albany - it comes in like a local almost every night around Philadelphia.

And has since practically the beginning of time, or the first assembled electromagnetic wave receiver was developed, which ever came first. It was one of General Electric’s first perennial radio stations, developed by a resourceful little entity that could build its own transmitters, with lots of delicate spare parts left over.

And it's WGY, Schenectady, not Albany...
