Philly gets it's Alternative back

10AM today... a move that not many people expected.

Clear Channel took their 9-Month old Spanish "Rumba 104.5" and dumped it off to the AM Dial at 1480AM (ending WDAS-AM's Gospel Format) and unceremoniously kicked off "Radio 104.5." So far from the looks of the playlist, they have leaned heavier on the Classic Alternative (Norvana, Sublime, Pearl Jam, Seven Mary Three, Talking Heads) and have sprinkled in an interesting mix of newer rock (Daughtry's Home... and album track from the Fray... Plain White T's Hey There Delilah).

Should be interesting to see how this evolves.

Sounds good so far. Let's just hope it doesn't devolve into the usual Clear Channel tightly playlisted active rock mullet-fest.

Unfortunately, the battle will be prying Philly Alt. listeners ears away from their XM and Sirius receivers (purchased en-masse when the format left the market.)

I don't know, but I've already heard three mullet rock acts - Creed, Hinder and Daughtry. Some good stuff to go along with it, too. I would like more '80s material and definitely more Currents (actually, I hate all the Currents they've played so far), but that will come in time.

It will be interesting to see how it progresses. CC doesn't have the best track record when it comes to this format, but taking Philly's history of hosting great Alternative stations in the past (namely WDRE), we can hope that this station will follow suit.

Lets hope this station dont become like The old awful Y 100 . Spanish fans lose a little ( AM switch ), Not much loss for gospel fans ( Philly has a FM Gospel Station ) , And Hip Hop still Rule'S Philly ! POWER 99 ! OK Im sorry , I forgot, that Im in the Rock room .94 WHJY Providence RULE'S !
