Philly Holiday Ratings

nd2023

Banned
B101 takes the cake this year with an impressive 11.2 share! Now 97.5 also benefits in November, but went down after B101 flipped to all-Christmas. It did quite well having Christmas all to itself from Halloween to the middle of November. WOGL's ratings dropped during the holidays, so I hope you enjoyed their Christmas format this year. WRFF caught a few more ears, up 3/4 of a point! Ben FM picked up some disappointed Now and B listeners in December, but lost them during the holidays.

Actually, they caught fewer ears, but the ears they caught listened more. (Cume was down, share was up). 6th in the market is very impressive for them. Referencing the other thread: They did beat MMR, who was down 4.2-3.6 from the December book. I don't know much about Preston and Steve, but maybe they were on vacation a lot during this book.

Speaking of personalities on vacation, could that explain WPHT's free fall? Only 329,300 people listened to them at all in the entire month.

TSL at Q102 must be very low. I wonder if it's lower than it usually is for CHRs, and, if so, maybe they'll tone down the repetition a little bit.

TSL at WXPN and WHYY seem high (high shares with comparatively low cumes). That tells me that people really do tune out commercials.

This was discussed once before (I think on this board). If WOGL's drop within their target audience wasn't as steep as it would have been by allowing two other stations to have all-Christmas to themselves (in other words, if two all-Christmas stations would have eaten away at WOGL's core), I wouldn't count them out for all-Christmas in 2009.

Without access to the breakdowns, it's hard to know: Is it fair to say Beasley has beaten Clear Channel with CHR in Philadelphia? I'm starting to wonder whether Q102's days are numbered. But what else could they put on 102.1? Smooth Jazz? (Haha. Just kidding.)

kill my 106.1 off and Q102 will go back up

now what could cc put on 106.1 that would not hurt Q ?

Having WKTU and WWPR in the same cluster hasn't hurt Z-100 in New York. That's essentially the same thing Clear Channel has here with WISX, WUSL and Q-102. Of course, Z-100 doesn't have a CHR competitor.

WRDW and WIOQ have the same number of people listening. Probably mostly the same people. They just seem to listen longer to WRDW.

Also...I'm pretty sure My 106.1 is making more money for CC Philadelphia than Q102. It aims at, geez, probably the most advertiser-friendly demo and it is consistently performing better than it even deserves too. If they had to make a choice to pull the plug on one or the other, I imagine it'd be easier to get rid of Q102 (and all it's associated overhead).

Q102 spun the same 5 songs 140 times a week! Last summer, I remember hearing I Kissed A Girl twice in 40 minutes! Wired was a little more generous with its powers. The nature of the audience of CHR leads to low TSL. Teenagers usually drive short distances and wear out the preset buttons switching stations every song. AC stations are usually listened to all day at work, and while people commute to work.

Clear Channel recently launched a rhythmic AC in Miami, 93.9 M-I-A. It already has a CHR, Y100, in the market.
