Janks proved again what such phoney phone calls have always done - that major news & sports broadcasting organizations are not good at screening calls or guests. It's embarassing to the interviewer because a sports broadcaster should recognize the voice of a major athlete, and he'd expect the producer to make sure the actual guest was on the line.

Janks (Thomas Cipriano of North Wales) never went to jail - he is on eight year's probation and a Montgomery County judge ordered him to pay a total of $5,926 in restitution to the businesses he duped - he would take advance money for 'performances' in small bars and not show up. He blamed the thefts on his addiction to prescription painkillers.

Over the years, he's made some clever calls and some calls that came out unfunny. Right now he needs to straighten out his own life, but I guess he's keeping up his crank calls to keep his 'name' alive.

Before everything instantly went on the internet, I used to love when Janks called in with a bunch of crank calls.
I'm a little disappointed in Van Pelt. He could have had a one liner to laugh it off with, but he just seemed annoyed.
It's not like he's never heard a Janks call before.

And finally, how could anybody pay Captain Janks to come do his act? What did it consist of? Ten minutes of farting into the mic, then he pees his pants for the grand finale?
 
From what he said one time, he apparently plays his tapes & discusses them. I'm not sure what that's worth to a club other than getting someone remotely related to the show in the house. I think he had a regular gig at a North Wales tex-mex bar with some kind of trivia games, too.
