Philly's November numbers are out

Christmas music helped WNUW's cume rise by 58,900 and they jumped a full share. B101, who was in their regular format for half the month is up 46,800 (cume) but their share dropped more than half-a-point. They actually have the lowest share I can remember them having in recent history.

Other notes: WOGL's cume dropped by over 100,000 which will probably excite a few people on these boards. LOL. But their share is up.

WIP is up to a 4-share. WXPN is over a 2-share for the first time I can remember. WYSP's cume is up by 110,100. Q102's is down by 86,800. They're now under a million. WRDW, on the other hand, picked up abut 32,000 and remains comfortably over a mil.

What about WPEN?

Down by both measures. Cume is down more than 30,000 and they edged a lil closer to getting merely half-a-share 6+.

Down to a 0.7 from a 0.8 in October.

The ratings are right here on this site:
http://www.radio-info.com/content/arbitron.php

WIP was up because of the Phillies. The "November" ratings are actually October 16 through November 12.

http://arbitron.com/home/surveysched.asp

Interestingly enough, WPHT was down to a 5.0 from a 5.9, despite the Phillies AND the election happening during the ratings period.

Another interesting thing I like to look at in the cume ratings. Total cume for the market was 4,484,600. Total population in the market is 4,758,100. That means that 273,500 people, 5.7% of the population, didn't listen to the radio at all in the entire month.

CORRECTIONS: Philly's November numbers are out

OOPS. sorry. I was using the wrong numbers! LOL

WNUW's cume is actually up 145,800. B101's went DOWN 56,900.

WOGL is actually UP by 20,900.

WYSP's cume is DOWN by 47,700. Q102 dropped below 1 mil in LAST MONTH's arbs. This month, they slid by another 31,300. WRDW picked up 11,400.

HAHA. one more correction: Q102's cume actually went UP 31,300; not down. (Why does the modify feature expire so quickly on here? It's made this thread a LOT longer! LOL.)

This top-line analysis is extremely compelling; but, let's remember that none of these stations use Cume or 6+ share to sell. Anyone have demos? P25-54? P18-34?

Speaking of 6+ cume: This is what I was really trying to say...

CUME LOSERS
  • WPHT dropped hugely during November. They lost 272,100! I can't imagine why. Ahem.
  • B101 was the second largest cume loser (down 56,900).
  • WYSP's was third, dropping 47,700.
  • WPST lost 47,400. (They'd inexplicably picked up 42,100 last month.)
  • WMGK was next in line, dropping 47,000.
  • WPEN said goodbye to 34,600.
  • WJBR dropped 27,100 (probably for the same reason as B101).
  • My 106.1 lost 26,200.
  • BEN-FM lost 25,500.
  • Radio 104.5 lost 16,000.
  • WXTU lost 15,400.

CUME WINNERS
  • Now 97.5 saw by far the largest cume increase with 145,800 newbies. Merry Christmas!
  • WRTI(!) was the second-largest gainer, picking up 57,700.
  • WDAS picked up 56,200.
  • KYW is up 50,500.
  • WRNB picked up 33,700.
  • WPHI is up 32,800.
  • New Jersey 101.5 gained 31,700 for some reason.
  • Q102 is up 31,300.
  • WNTP-AM is up 30,300. (Anyone know why?)
  • WOGL is up 20,900.
  • WMMR is up 16,400.
  • WFIL-AM continues upward, gaining 15,600.
  • WTTM-AM also continues marching up, gaining 12,400.
  • WRDW is next, up 11,400.

SHARE LOSERS
  • WPHT dropped almosta full point.
  • B101 saw the second-largest drop, down more than half-a-point.
  • WISX and WPST were off marginally.
  • Power 99, Radio 104.5, WMMR, WMGK, WJBR, Praise 103.9, WPEN-AM, 100.3 The Beat, BEN-FM, WXTU, WHYY, WLEV, and WEMG-AM were down insignificantly.

SHARE GAINERS
  • NOW 97.5 wins by gaining a full point.
  • WPEN was the second-largest gainer, up by more than half-a-point.
  • WXPN gained half-a-point.
  • KYW gained almost half-a-point.
  • WDAS-FM and WOGL gained marginally.
  • WYSP, WRTI, WBYO, WFKB, WNTP-AM, WFIL-AM, and WURD-AM gained but insignificantly.

Everyone else maintaned the same shares they had in October.

Next year, seems like there will be 2 Christmas stations on Halloween. It's kind of nice Now 97.5 could justify its Christmas flip on Halloween by playing that quote from the mayor "Christmas came 2 months early" after the Phillies won.

Why the "ahem"? Did 'PHT turn off their HD signal or something?

I thought that was Charlie Manuel, manager of the World Champion Phillies that said that.

So, what's the panic point for B101? Is it when they go below a 7.0, or when WNUW goes above a 3.0?

So, what's the panic point for B101?

I don't think there is one. Maybe in the unlikely event they start getting 5-shares during non-Christmas months, it'd be time to panic. But how likely is that, really?

I'd love to see them lose the Christmas book to one of the other guys in town but I don't really see how that could ever happen because B101's all-Christmas audience builds on an existing 7- or 8-share. As long as they see a healthy uptick with the all-Christmas (and they will), I'm sure they'll be plenty happy. After all, no one's expecting a 17-share this time around. (My personal opinion [totally unrelated]: Since B101 seems to flip only begrudgingly, I would love to see them skip it altogether next year and leave it to 97.5, 98.1, and 99.5. [And in the dream sequence, a Clear Channel frequency.] Those stations do it so much better anyway!)

I like WOGL's christmas the best. It reminds me of Sunny 104.5. I like some stuff from CHR christmas's, but who does that anymore? I'm thinkin WPST and WSTW will be runnin stuff, but probably not WIOQ.
I'm curious to see who does what in the rateings for December. So far, I haven't heard WOGL on in any places with Christmas music.
B101 was on at the barber shop I was at on Sunday. Maybe he's switched to WOGL now.

i remember when Q102 did christmas music i think the last time was in 1998 ?

ok trivia question for all of you in the 90s what was the first station too flip on christmas eve to x-mas programming ?

Q102 did Christmas later then that.
I thought I remember 2002, I think it was, when they ran taped loop of music/camersials (Automated, jockliss) starting sometime on Christmas Eve and running through a part of Christmas day. I do believe that 2002 was the last year they did that?
Maybe it was 2003? or 2000? Not sure, but sometime past 1998 I'm sure.
Now 1998 may have been the last year they did an actual Christmas format with Jocks? I wouldn't know.
