Phoebe Snow

I wonder how many AC stations played "Poetry Man' Tuesday since Phoebe Snow died-even if it wasn't in regular rotation.

I'm guessing not many-and that's pathetic in my book !

don't many, if not most, AC stations play mostly older music ?

i forgot many, if not most, people in radio are not really into music.

The AC here in Nashville still plays '70s, due partly to the fact that their sister station is no longer oldies, and may have assumed some of the latter station's playlist. But as far as I know, they have not played "Poetry Man" in recent years. And I haven't heard it this week.

"Poetry Man" probably doesn't "test" well. But Mix 92.9 has been #1 since the beginning of time, so they must be doing something right.

i guess it's not 'happy' enough for AC or Classic Hits but wouldn't it be desirable for a jock to say something like 'sorry to hear phoebe snow died today of ..... had a big hit back in ____ remember Poetry Man'? jackson browne once said she had the greatest voice he ever heard. here's Phoebe Snow on W (or K) _____

Sounds better to me than hearing the Eurythmics S&M song for the umpteenth time.

Very sorry to hear that. I know she also sang on a number of commercial jingles and once said she liked singing jingles because with her distinctive voice, there was no way to bury her in the mix.

For what it's worth I ran her name through yes.com and came back with only two AC stations in the last week playing "Poetry Man," WLYF in Miami and WWLI in Providence. It appears some Oldies/Classic Hits, Adult Standards and even AAA outlets did give the song a "tribute spin" after the news of her death broke. It would make more sense to hear something about her death on one of those formats as opposed to AC. And to be honest, many AC stations play no '70s at all anymore, so it's not surprising that they wouldn't acknowledge Phoebe, an artist whom the average listener probably, sadly, considers a one-hit wonder.

Anyone remember when the Hawaiian girl group Na Leo did a remake of "Poetry Man" about 1999 or so? It got some AC airplay at the time - I remember it being played on what was then 95.7 W-Lite in Grand Rapids, MI. Pretty nice cover, faithful to the original.

"S&M" is by Rihanna, by the way, and I hope to God it never crosses over to AC... but if Katy Perry's "E.T." can make it... ugh.

"Only Girl In the World" crossed over, but the lyrics to "S&M" may keep it off AC.

I must be the only one who loves both "Poetry Man" and "S&M". But I can understand why AC wouldn't play either one. One has been off the radio too long and is now unfamiliar. The other is too edgy lyrically.

Agree. Most of Rihanna's material in the past year is too suggestive/edgy for AC anyway. Not many traditional AC's played 'Only Girl.'
