PHOENIX ARBITRON RATINGS: JANUARY 2011

So what did KOOL-FM do during January that boosted them up over a point
from December? (Ignoring the holiday book as it's too skewed.)

Can't be just Turntable Tuesday...and that started after the January PPM
period anyway. BTW, did Jeffrey T. play Brown Eyed Girl again during "TT"
today? ;D

A good book indeed for KOOL! In addition, I'm surprised to see the resurgence of KNIX. KNIX increased 1.4 AQH % from the December book, which is quite an impressive leap. Also intriguing is the growing gap between KTAR-FM and KFYI. KTAR continues to steadily increase, whereas KFYI has slipped to 0.4 AQH% behind KTAR. KFYI on FM appears to be imminent with these ever decreasing numbers for KFYI. I also wonder how long KESZ will remain on top of the ratings whilst riding the coat-tails of their Phoenix radio "Christmas Music Massacre." ;D

Here's a question: When will KAZG break into the ratings with a 0.1 AQH%? ;)

There is certainly the appearance of a significant change in the PPM panel.

Here are the major 25-54 changes in percent vs. December.

KNIX +35
KZZP +16
KOOL + 37
KZON +15
KPKX -19
KDKB -19
KYOT +53
KAJM +50
KVIB -20
KOMR +33
KTAR AM +36

KFYI moved from 19th to 24th, even though the change was just 0.1 share points: that goes to show that there were a huge amount of moves in the book.

KESZ is always near the top 25-54, so Christmastime is just icing on a pretty tasty cake.

Since technically Media Monitors "reserves the right to drop monitoring on stations with less than 2.0 performance" can Phoenix go back to arbitron now? Ugh.

And KFYI's nosedive continues! Again, karma's a bitch. ;D

Karma for what, exactly? Did you get laid off? No? Hmmm....

Media Monitors is not a ratings service, and Arbitron did not go away.

No -- I resigned to take a job with a much better outfit in another state. Given the way I was treated at KFYI, I am thoroughly pleased to see that station start to sink like the Titanic.

Listeners are totally getting sick and tired of the Drugster Rush, the softball pitching Hannity and the wacko Beck with his mis-guided nonsense !!

550 KHz. is tanking with the Faux KFYI Not balanced lunacy. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Moving KFYI to FM won't bring bigger ratings - - ha ha. Lunacy is now The Titanic KFYI's legal ID. Studio address & COL could be 24th Street & Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ.

The good result of all of this could give the long suffering KOY 1230 KHz. its rightful 550 KHz. dial position again. "Fifty-Five Phoenix, K-O-Y - IS Arizona !!"

What is your source for this 'information'? Or is it simply what you want to believe based on your own political ideology? You just named off the top three talk shows in America, with sizable audiences and huge ad revenues to go along with their large audiences.

I don't listen to any of them, but there is a reason so many stations plug them into the line-up. The December ratings reflects the Christmas music dominance of KEZ, which will disappear in the next ratings book. I don't subscribe to Arbytron, but I am fairly confident that Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck both have strong ratings for their respective shows.

...not to mention Beck is on KTAR, not KFYI, so fusejockey's concerns are more with idealogy than radio programming.

Correct. I was associating Faux News as a general force of the "airwaves" and not itegral to a KFYI or KTAR-FM. My residence is north of the listenable Metro.
If I came on too strong, It is due to sizeable numbers of people being attractively led like sheep. They do not check the actual sources of numerous political issues. Jon Stewert has lots of fun with MSNBC's foe across the street, Fox News. He is on Comedy Channel.

And then I will take the backseat on this one.

BTW: Where are Doc and Jeff?

There's great people working there still, Andrew. And karma... is karma, so be nice..... :)

Barely even listen to KFYI anymore, only takes about 2 minutes of Barry and She-Twit before I hear something so stupid I change the station. Rush, Hannity and Savage are crap. Broomhead is a broken redneck record. Nothing really to listen to on 550

It'd be nice to listen to Kim Komando (Barry notwithstanding), but KFYI buries her show
somewhere (4 AM Sunday?) and they've (KFYI) probably cut it back to where they air
only one hour. OK, I embellished that some, but still... ::)

1. If you're going to be "associating Faux [Fox] News" with anyone, you might start by associating it with the broadcasters it actually, you know, broadcasts: Alan Colmes, John Gibson, Tom Sullivan and Brian Kilmeade. Beyond that, the only branding FNR offers is to stations that carry its hourly newscasts. Would you hold CBS Radio responsible for anything aired by an affiliate running World News Roundup?

2. Comedy Channel hasn't existed in nearly two decades. It merged with competitor HA! to become first the Comedy Network and then Comedy Central.

This is sort of like calling ratings the "Arbs" even though ARB became Arbitron decades ago. The name stuck among some folks, just as I hear many confusions of Comedy Channel with Comedy Centaral.

.... and some people still thing you need a radio to listen to radio stations, too. :)
