PHOENIX ARBITRON RATINGS: MARCH 2011

I hope KDKB makes money (it probably does), because it's kinda sad to see them scuffling along at a 2.whatever for years and years.

On the other hand, it's great to see KSLX do well; not to mention KOOL. Gee, maybe having air personalities with actual, y'know... personality, is a winning formula!

As for KFYI. Talkin' politics is one thing. Being dull about it is another. The place is taking itself too seriously (BY excepted). I miss Mohan......and Leykis for that matter.

Valley Spanish-speaking listeners prefer canned formats from California instead of local talent...at least in March.

And the KFYI nosedive continues! Not only has KTAR left it in its dust, but NPR station KJZZ has pulled even with it. I love it!

I wish there was a facebook version of this thread because there is definitely a post in here I would've liked.

By the way, KZZP seems to have remained rather flat for quite a while. I wonder how their slick & slight move will affect them?

KFYI needs to move to FM. It's the only way they'll close the gap on KTAR. :)

Thank you Catfish. I've known this for at least a year. Why would they put them on the main FM dial when they are already on KNIX HD2. If you wanna hear KFYI on FM, then go get an HD radio or stream on computer or internet radio.

Technically, KFYI is on FM - true. But nobody listens to HD radio. It may be great (kind of like Beta video tapes were superior to VHS), but nobody cares.

So saying KFYI is on FM, while true, has no meaning in the real marketplace. "Broadcasting" over HD FM is like selling a Ferrari. It's a great product, but not many people will get it.

KFYI needs to be on an FM broadcast stick that more than 3% of the radio consuming public can hear.

Maybe their rating aren't good enough to get them on a full fledge FM station, but my point is there is an option to get HD radio & then you got your KFYI. Since they are already on HD2, I can't see them going full fledge FM just based on that fact alone.

Does anyone know what percentage of all radios lack the ability to receive AM?

My smartphone only has FM - I suspect many others do as well.

I think the better is question is what percentage of all radios lack the ability to receive HD? I'd gather that statistic is around 98%.

More like 99.6%.
