Phoenix Mag Names Favorite Radio Show

After years of KFYI and KTAR winning Phoenix Magazine Readers Favorite Radio Show and Station, KXAM took both awards this year with Kim and Don winning favorite show.

I never listened to KXAM before reading the article, because I didn't realize it was on 1310. Kim and Don's show is on at lunchtime and it would be difficult for me to listen.

Any comments on either award?

Kim was Jeffry O'Brien's co-host for several years, when his show was in the mornings. She is easy to listen to. KXAM is like a home-town station of times past. I listened to Don Imus before he got the Sharpeton shaft. The replacement, a local sports commentary show is sort of interesting and unexpected for KXAM. Jeffry O'Briens show is entertaining for a local show, too bad it isn't live with live callers. It is recorded at 5 and plays at 9 p.m. I pass on Matt Gerson's commentaries and interviews.

::) In the words of Gaydos: What a joke!

Remember, this is the same pub. that crowned P. MacBland best radio talk show host coupla months ago. (Ankarlo must be seething).

For cryin' out loud, the guy's voice is almost shot, he turned 74 this month, he sounds lethargic (especially 2 weeks ago during the 3p-4p Newsroom hour sans Click Chick, Gaydos, MO, and Kidd), is out-of-touch with local, compelling topics listeners want to hear and talk about. And has THE WORST, boring-ass guests! (Try it on for size this week, and you'll be rolling your eyes too!). ::)

And oh yah, Mr. Middle-aged hip hopper Kidd looks likely to take over his throne. TMISU managerial slogan should be: The Flip-Floppers.

That's nothing, McPat needs nearly 20 years more to equal the reign of George Putnam.

And I just realized Kent Brockman is a younger (slightly) George Putnam!

Phoenix Magazine is one of those intensely boring publications, read only by real estate agents, old socialites and visiting tourists looking for info on where to get brunch.

Unfortunately, Mesa is a part of Market #15, not Market #215 - a major metropolitan area, not a farm town in Iowa. I don't see who this station appeals to other than snowbirds over the age of 80 - in other words, those who don't want to listen to "youngsters" like McBland on KTAR or the too-modern '50s & '60s MOR tunes on KOY. ;D

The Positive Side of Sports has knocked around the AM dial for about 10 years or so. It used to alternate between KDUS and KMVP every couple of years, depending on who would quote them the best price. Maybe KXAM charges less for brokered programming than KFNX, plus they get AM drive, which they wouldn't on 1100.

Why? I'd love to hear who Gerson will be supporting for President in 1992. ;D

They do have Dennis Miller, whose show is doing well, he is around 120 affiliates.

But, its like the minor leagues, if Dennis continues to do well, a bigger station will take his show on. Especially since they only air 2 hours of the three, opting to torture us with dining around instead for the last hour.

I love hearing Matt Gerson string together 4 sentences and 9 thoughts into one gargantuan run-on sentence.

...sounds like you've been hangin' around the Media Hut and inhaled some of our fumes! The Nurse and I are shocked that Lumberyard Radio 14~Forty didn't even get an honorable mention. It's rigged, no doubt!

Actually, KFNX and KXAM aren't even in that category. Semi-pro is a better description. The minor league stations are KKNT and KFNN. ;D

Speaking of KKNT, I'm surprised that they didn't pick up Miller since Salem does carry him in other markets, notably Chicago.

dennis miller has a radio show!

i'll be listening for sure. i haven't listened to 1310 in years.
