Phoenix Rimshot KNRJ Sold

(from allaccess)
SIERRA H BROADCASTING is selling Dance KNRJ (ENERGY 101.1)/PAYSON, AZ-PHOENIX to INDEPENDENCE MEDIA HOLDINGS for $3 million. The buyer owns stations in INDIANA, ILLINOIS, KENTUCKY, and FLORIDA.

The first thing they need to do is fire [EDIT] Rod... He is a horrible PD and just an all out horrible person. Bring back Mikeo from Energy 98, or hire me.

[EDIT-offensive content]

Then again, I doubt Mikeo is myself would give Sierra the time of day. They would have to write me a check with nine zeros on the end, and find me a new girlfriend, then maybe.

I'd say that's about right. No way they are keeping a dance format on the station once the deal finalizes. We can only hope that another station, somewhere, sees the value in the format and flips so we don't wind up losing the Billboard chart.

all my awful predictions from the last few years come home to roost..
ah, well, that's what ya get for not playing enuf Jimi LaLumia tracks...lol...
on to 08, y'all!!!

A dance station in the middle of nowhere helps just as much as a dance station in Chicago in terms of spins on the charts. Is it better to have 50 dance stations in the woods than one dance station in a big city?
It gets the spins of dance songs up on the CHR charts.

Dance needs more spins period. We need more than just the few that are reporting. Energy was still considered a Phoenix station regardless of who can hear that. If they are lost thats another major market gone. We all would love to have 50 stations but you have to show that they can work. Losing one enforces the idea that they dont work. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Pulse in NYC

Who cares about charts? Clearly consumers don't. Look at what is played on radio and what is bought. They don't always match. If a radio stations ONLY worth is reporting status then that shows just how sad this industry is.

Well then thats the programmers fault. We get a ton of phone calls of where to buy the music and we push Itunes, beatport and a local store. I know for a fact that the local store has done well from our concert and they list our playlist in the store. That chart is important for credibility.

Anyone who undstands how the chart really works knows it's B.S. It is the total number of weekly plays of a given song - ranked. One station with a song in power rotation can put a song on the chart. Two stations in power can make it top 10. The song doesn't have to be good, just played. There are very few original thinking programmers in the business these days. Most follow what someone else does. Well remember what your parents used to say when you were a kid...if Timmy jumps off a cliff does that mean you should too? The dance chart is a mess. There are reporting stations that don't belong on it. That influences this sacred chart you speak of. I guess a chart is better than no chart but, until HD dance, key internet internet dance stations are added, it will only be taken seriously by people who just want a footnote in history.

Why would you put HD radio on the chart when no ones listening to it?

The same reason KNRJ was on the chart. It clearly doesn't matter if anyone is listening. And actually they are, but no biggie. No one listens to the internet either ;)

dance needs some actual mainstream hit records and a reformation of it's very existence, which, quite frankly, I don't think is ever gonna happen on either count....

Dance will never make a come back with singers like La Lumia.

The Real Cover Girls disbanded many years ago when Angel Clivilles left the group and Evelyn no longer sang with them. The new Covergirls is a fraud.

The best way to compile a dance chart:
All the dance songs played on terrestrial radio (which includes stations that play only a few hours of dance each week)
All mixshow spins (it doesn't do good for the charts to not report mixshow spins)
Internet dance stations with a significant amount of listeners.
Satellite radio and cable TV dance stations
