Phoenix talk radio hosts are awful

I used to listen to Phoenix talk radio until someone introduced me to how talk radio should be done. I found it on WGN radio out of Chicago.
http://wgnradio.com/schedule/

They are very enjoyable to listen to while at work. Especially Mike McConnell & Garry Meier.
They cover unique topics, not the same beat to death topics over & over.

I have noticed that Phoenix radio talk show hosts talk down to their listeners & "preach/lecture" their listeners. They try to portray themselves as experts on subjects that they know little about. And when they aren't doing that, they are screaming/yelling at each other...or their listeners.
Makes it hard to listen to while at work.

Bruce St. James, Mac & Gaydos, Broomhead, Pamela Hughes, Barry Young, Carrie & Chuck, etc. All need to take lessons from real talk show hosts like WGN has. They actually take calls & converse to their listeners, not preach at them, try to start arguements, & cut them off.

Thank God for internet radio.

When did you figure that one out, Dick Tracy?!! :D ;D ;)

Billkex,

I started listening to Mike McConnell in 2004 when he hosted " The Weekend"

His style was so good that I started to listen to his M-F podcast on WLW. (He was at WLW for 20+ years)

His WGN moved started out rough, but he seems to be well liked there now.

I enjoy his show too.

Just my $0.02

The exception is Terry Gilberg - she is always quite enjoyable and informative to listen to.

Thankfully, she's on during a prime slot on the weekend (Saturday Night from 8pm to 10pm) when folks are out and about or at home with their radios on.

Someone criticised the great Harry Young! Oh no! Don't you know any better? You see Barry Young can criticize other media people but you can not criticise him. Just ask his staff, the ubiquitous yes woman and yes man he maintains in his studio. Not to mention an imaginary "alien" on cymbals.

Agreed. Good radio. Good guests. And takes on-air listener calls (what a concept), except for a couple weeks ago, when she stated up front why she wasn't.

I used to enjoy listening to Mike Broomhead, but he spends too much time LECTURING his listeners.

He will invite callers to "weigh in" & then he has to go to a break (news, etc) then when he comes back, he spends the next 12 minutes repeating the story/what he just said before the break & when he finally realizes he needs to take some calls, he runs out of time & has to go to a break. (Repeat the process after the break)

HEY BROOMHEAD!....LESS LECTURING...TAKE MORE CALLERS!!!

His show is a 3 hr. lecture on his views & opinions.
It gets old real quick.
