Why is WPRO asking listeners to phone in traffic conditions if they're on the road? Just what we need. More people on their cells while driving and especially while driving in snow. You've got a news team. You've got traffic resources. Now you want listeners to call while they're driving. Ironically what do they really expect anyone to say anyway? Roads are snow covered. No one is going to call in because they spotted a highway down to the pavement.

I totally agree with you on this.It does bother me thatthey are asking people to phone in traffic incidents and conditions.It is illegal in Connecticutto use your cell phone while driving and I know in Rhode Island its not that far behind.

Let's say you see an accident and you are calling it in to WPRO and you crash into somebody while phoning it in, would WPRO be legally responsible because they are asking drivers to perform this act?
I think a good lawyer would figure this one out. Now I know lawyers are scarce and hard to find in little Rhody but just an opinion.
 
The legal angle of this is something that I did not think of. Well I guess that if Channel 12 and WHJY can get sued for the Station Nightclub fire, than suing WPRO for asking drivers to use their cell phone while driving can not be that far behind. Especially if one of those listeners is involved in a serious crash while doing so.

However in WPRO's defense, I do hear other radio stations such as WCBS in New York doing the same thing. Any lawsuit involving use of a cell phone to call in traffic reports would probably be listed in the same category as the woman who sued McDonalds when she spilled hot coffee on her lap. Then again.... SHE WON!

Oh Boy.... Now look what you've done Kenny. You've just given everyone another reason to start suing people. WPRO management just looked at their computer monitor and gave you the middle finger. lol
 
oh gimme a break wpro isnt twisting anyones arms to call them with a traffic incindent and there not the only station in providence doing it.... clear channel is doing it on there stations as well... i dont really see the big deal with it
 
Before Matt got the job, everybody was screaming here that everything should be more local....HOW MORE LOCAL CAN YOU GET!?!

I agree. Not a big deal at all...UNTIL you get some freak looking to blame someone because he crushed his car while calling in a traffic report. Someone will eventually figure out how to make this into a big deal. It's only a matter of time.
 
Lawsuit's not an issue, although in this day and age who knows? No one is forcing anyone to use a cell behind the wheel. Funny but I once heard Dan Yorke on a rant against using a phone behind the wheel, then he admitted he does it but he's one of the ones who can handle a phone and a car. Hah. I'm sure everyone who drives while on a phone feels the same way about themselves. Now driving, using a cell, and breast feeding all at once is another matter.
 
Dan's argument sounds like the drunk guy at the bar who says that he only had a few beers and that he'll make it home just fine. lol
 
wont' be a big deal. Major broadcast companies have their SMALL markets do it all the time all over the country because they don't have it in their budget to have an outside traffice source
