I spotted a recently posted photo on a website that shows the CFTO-TV studios at Agincourt shortly after it opened. Go to http://www.thekingshighway.ca/PHOTOS/hwy401-80_lg.jpg . Note the mostly rural landscape surrounding the station at the time, and the original TV tower. And to think Dave Devall was there back then...lol.

Dave D. was amongst the first people hired there.
He had a few weeks to go before he finished @ R.P.I., and like Al Hammal at the CBC, encouraged to take the job.

The original CFTO-9 tower appears to have been much taller than the original CBLT tower on Jarvis Street in Toronto.
Did CBLT move to this tower after it was built until the CN Tower was completed??
Is the original CFTO tower still standing?? And if it is, is the tower being used for cell phone relays, FM radio, ENG receive, or a backup antenna for CFTO??

I don't believe so. The original CFTO building has expanded considerably to accomodate CTV national headquarters. I believe the old TX site is now part of the parking lot.

He was also at CHEX-TV immediately before moving to CFTO.

CBC and CTV never shared a transmission site in Toronto until the CN Tower facilities went on air. It would have been interesting if our neighbours in Buffalo had done something similar.
Both towers are now gone. CFTO took down their tower in the 1980s. The Jarvis Street site within the last 24 months. The original CITY tv tower is still on top of the building it began at in the early 1970s.
At a spot where that tower once stood, is a short cellular tower; not as tall as the one it replaced. That original tower was also the site of CHFI's first transmitter. What that image does not show, are the growing 'burbs that were appearing south of where the Scarborough Town Centre is now located.
If you are from Ontario - I would recommend visiting that fellow's site.
