Hot damn!!! Honestly, I didn't realize just how bad I missed The Pig until I heard those first four eclectic songs - Elton, Dwight, Roy Orbison, Allison Krauss - that's just too cool for school.... now all I need to make the total package complete is to get it back on FM so I can listen at work, and have my wonderful former neighbor telling me I'm caller seven for what ever concert is playing that week!
______________

You must work in a metal building. You shouldn't have any trouble picking up 1210 in Memphis. I actually was able to catch a skip of it last weekend down here in Jackson, MS. That is my favorite station, I wish I could pick it up all the time or if they could buy out 640 or some some other blowtorch so I could hear it all the time. Has Pig been leaving their power up at night? Picking up 1210 at night in Jackson is very rare. The only other times I've heard it is shortly before sunset or after sunrise. Usually only for an hour or less. Pretty good audio too. The station in Baton Rough blocks the pig.

Since Dr. Flinn puts about as much thought into format changes as most people put into what they are going to have for lunch, you may just get your wish.

That will be great news for you and the other 17 people who listened to The Pig.

Well, there's only 16 listening to some of his other stations. Maybe it's a good move.

1210 never leaves its power up at night. They're 250 watts, just enough to get into Midtown to fight splatter from WOAI. Whatever, I still listen to MOYL when I sleep.

Dude, that is NOT cool. There were 112 listeners when the Pig signed off. Get your facts straight. If they had stayed on the air it would have been a THOUSAND by now.
______________

You people amaze me with your putdowns of the Pig. Doing mornings and mid-days there was the most fun I have had in years. I loved the music; I almost never took off my headphones (except when one of those pesky 17 listeners called). When we did a remote, we got great response, good thing those 17 people always brought their families with them. When I did the remotes for Homer and Performance Toyota those 17 people bought cars week after week. The shows we did at the Peabody always drew big crowds (we turned people away at most of them) and they had to call in to win the tickets so they were all listeners. No the ratings were not good, but the response was, which do you think the advertisers prefer? You want to criticize Doc for changing formats at his stations so much, take your shot. There are a lot of people that have been burned by Doc, I am one of them. I was fired when I came back from vacation because the guy sitting in for me was making $10 an hour “and he didn’t sound THAT bad, so we are going with him” is what I was told. Was I pissed? YES, I was but that doesn’t take away from the station, the music, the promotions and the listeners. I was told by many of my friends not to go to work for Doc, that I would end up jobless. I didn’t listen to them and I’m glad I didn’t, I wouldn’t trade working there for anything. It was a party that lasted a year and a half. I remember a co-worker telling me he was afraid he was going to be fired. I told him that I refuse to worry about being fired on a daily basis, if I get fired it will be a surprise…it WAS.

And thankfully, you ALWAYS took my calls.... I miss you and the parties at the Peabody.

Signed, your down the street neighbor that we discovered by accident after one of those contest calls!

Well if 1210 didn't leave their power up last weekend, that little 250 watt walkie talkie sure was packing a punch. I live south of Jackson, MS and its around 230 miles to memphis. Its a shame they pulled the plug, but I can't listen to them much on the radio down here anyway except for a rare skip. As far as the MYOL format, The one that they used to have on 680 is identical to the one we have down here on 780.

I'm really happy for you that you had a good time working for the Doc. I also know a few people who have worked in Doc's rat hole in the Hickory Hill flood plain, and -- to a person -- they thank their lucky stars they don't work for him anymore. As for me, I would rather have a root canal than spend a single day in the employ of the good Doc.

Thanks for the kind words, I miss it too! I guess we will have to wait and see if it shows up again on FM. I would love to hear that playlist on FM again. I just hope Doc doesn't go back to the $8 an hour Columbia School of Broadcasting rejects as air talent....or Program Director. Maybe this time he will pick someone from the Mid-south as the Program Director, I think that would help. Steve was good with promotions, but had NO people skills.

Mitch
