Pigeon Back on WKLU.

From a good source...Jeff Pigeon signs to do mornings at WKLU.
Q: How much will the format change to match his style...or, how much will his style have to adapt to mesh with the format?

Just thinking...Has Russ given total control to Scott to run WKLU?? With the signing of Pidge and Tom, with Scott no slouch either, has an agreement been made that has Russ leaving it to Scott to sink or swim?

With KLU's checkered past with it personalities, I hope this sticks!

Best of luck Pidge... I hope you enjoy working in that beautiful building. Where does this leave my good friend and former partner Libby?

Crystal McKenzie

Good luck to my good buddy Jeff! Had a chance to work with him during the State Fair broadcasts this Summer. A total pro! Let's hope they let the man do his thing and give us another viable talk option in the morning.

"another viable talk option in the morning"

Are you suggesting that they should shut off the music and do a talk show? No way, bad idea, huge mistake! It's a music station, and if they're really smart (and I think they are) Jeff will do like all good employees do and execute the format correctly. And in music formats these days the trend is for the morning jock to know the music and entertain and connect without stopping the music to yabber all morning.

Bringing in popular personalities and not letting them be personalities (doing what they did to become popular) is a plan to fail.

Pidge played the AC hits on the 1070 morning show for years, and was very popular, before WIBC became a news/talk station. I think he's up to whatever WKLU wants him to do.

He's talented enough to be able to handle whatever Scott and Russ ask him to do. I heard from him a couple of days ago and he's excited to be taking this gig, so look for great things from 'KLU.

I always throught Jeff Pigeon was at his best when WIBC still did music. I'm hoping WKLU will reduce the number of songs per hour during mornings to give him room to do some things and let his personality show.

If they let Pidge do his own thing, it may be the best and only decision that station has made that will help. If they FORCE him to be paired up with anyone else there (don't want to name names) it will NOT work. There is NO Terri Stacey at WKLU - and we all know who they will try to pair him up with - hopefully ego will take a backseat to proper business sense and they'll let him go solo so there won't be all those lame 'mom and my kids' conversation.

Wonder how Pidge will handle those HOTLINE calls?

Again, best decision they've made since moving to Castleton - hopefully they don't run him off with all the 'let's play radio' mindset that has hurt this station from the beginning. Pidge is a guy who doesn't 'play radio' - he 'knows radio.' Just don't stick the amateurs with him.

It's on their website now...Jeff starts Monday, 5-9. Congrats, Pidge!

Isn't this the same Jeff Pigeon who, just a year ago, left another station after years and years of declining ratings with and without music? And isn't this the same Russ Oasis who, by ALL accounts, is an over-zealous, meddling, egomaniac of an owner? And isn't this the station that has and will flip formats at the whim of the owner, based on who in the market he decides to go after that day?
How does anybody here think this ends well for anyone but Russ? He'll get the initial media hype out of having Pigeon back on the air-which is obviously what he wants-then after awhile we'll start hearing the same horror stories about Pidge getting hotlined for talking too much or being 12 seconds late for that Guess Who "rock block" or whatever other tired old idea Russ has running currently.
More power to Jeff, good luck, I just hate to see him get into a position where he can't win...for his sake, I hope I'm wrong, although I have to disagree with RadioHo, there ARE lots of Terry Staceys out there. Just about every station has a receptionist they can put on the air to blabber on about inane crap no one cares about. So maybe Russ will throw his secretary on with Jeff and that will finally be the winning combo over there!

I love your to the point opinion. Sure there are a lot of Terry Staceys out there, but the real one seemed to work well at the old WIBC. My point was if they try to use their current morning person with pidge, it will not be good. They should either let him alone, or bring in someone else fresh. Otherwise, it'll be the Howard Stern/Pig Vomit combo of 'I'm putting you on the air with him to make sure he doesn't become too popular and overshadow the station or the owner. Make sure to keep him in line.' Which won't work of course.

Also, there is no question this won't last. It's still the music stupid (or is it stupid music?). Either way, the format is boring and won't hold listeners, but it's a way for pidge to get back on the air so as to not suffer the 'out of sight out of mind' of the radio biz.

Ho, I actually agree with you that it IS the music, at least in this current formatic experiment. The problem with all the raa-raa talk about what they'll do with Pidge is that everyone is trying to use normal radio station logic-which won't work at a Russ-owned station. It's all about Russ and his ego, and as you say, no one can be bigger than Russ.

Since we won't agree on Terry Stacey, I'll just keep my opinions to myself on that.

I don't think we disagree about talent - I'm just saying that Terry didn't apply to be a broadcaster, she was in the right place at the right time and brought something fresh to WIBC. There's a difference between people that are 'put on the air' and those that call themselves 'broadcasters.' If you call yourself a broadcaster, you're going to be judged more harshly than someone that is thrown into the chair and doesn't try to pretend to know what they're doing. And I've seen it work in other markets as well. If that makes sense.

Has Jeff Pigeon started his shift yet on the Brownsburg station? Since he's open to small market radio, he'd sure sound good on the station here in Winchester.

Anybody been listening to the show? Posters here have been more excited about his comeback than advertisers. Only running about four spots per hour in the morning and most are national, not local.
