The common problem with Pigeonholes is that every Pigeon has one. You'll find it just below the tailfeathers...or is it that slighly smaller than a mail tray...cubical, that one has to curl the big envelopes to get'em to fit?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm? It just human to want to box something, and label it, as we see fit. It's a settling feeling, unless it escapes, and re-names itself.
Here lately, some of our breatheren Posters have herniated a few discs, and maybe even tore a scrotum or two, in their tireless effort to Pigeonhole just what MY 102's format is. Even though it
Shickles the Tit out of me to read this stuff, I can't help, but ask why? Formats have been fragmented for years. Today we have many cases of Hybrids, Cross-breeds, Extensions there of, and otherwise, an entire litter of Mutts! MY102 is after anyone that sits down to pee,...Chaz Bono included. Age 18-34, with then older songs netting the 35-54 gravy. As a former Programmer, I sample listen, and I fully understand their direction. I'm a guy...so, I not their "Listener".
However, I'm always willing to help, where ever needed. So,...I'll move a few Pigeons outta the way, and add my own pathway to clarification,...as I give it a label;...Scooter Lesley style:
"I-pod Shuffle, Tube-top Rock for Bow-legg-id Cougars". Have a good day!

Pigeonholin' the two Countrys:
Since they are now/have been owned by the same group, the massive headbutting of two rabid Billy Goats has halted. WESC & WSSL really don't compete against each other anymore...Sad! For me, I enjoyed that Rasslin' match, book after book. Collectively, and without question, they have the Best Air Talent in the market. I sample listen, but I don't like "today's" Country music. Most of it makes my hair hurt, much like, but not as severe as, Hip-hop. I realize that the two stations are different, but I don't know enough to say. Anyone care to enlighten me, and the rest of this board?

Re: WSSL & WESC

WSSL plays mostly 90s to today's country. I guess it could be called "hot country." Stations like that aren't really difficult to find. WESC is more unique as they sometimes go as far back as the 50s, play more classic country and play more of a "raw" country sound with newer stuff (meaning you may not hear Taylor Swift, etc)...they don't focus on NEW stuff as much.

I don't listen to either of the country stations, but that's always been my understanding.

Now, before I get started, let me state that this post is not me kickin' on said station, nor has it anything to do with Air Talent. Just Formats, and that alone. So, what is a Classic Rock format? In 1986, I was told that Lee Abrams coined the name after returning from a Classic Car show. He wanted a more commerial AOR, but didn't know what to call it, until then. In December of '87, we started the second Rock 101, a Classic Rock. The first one, WCAC-FM, ten years earlier, was an AOR. Our base was 3200+plus songs, with 4-current spins per hour, usually coming out of the stop-sets. Two fer Tuesdays, No Repeat Thursdays, and Live Air Talent 24/7! Did we have it right or not. Over the years, Consultant monkeys have trimmed, and deleted the original playlist down to what we have today; nearly 24-years later. Your gut opinion is welcome or you can compare to what Satellite Radio is doing...their Classic Rock stations. Who's correct or who was close to what a Classic Rock format is???????
