pike county PA

I would like to know why is Pike County PA in the NYC DMA. it is never mentioned in NYC Newscasts. Do people actually watch NYC news in Pike County. All NYC Stations hardly ever go their to cover news.

WABC 7 Eyewitness News does put either Milford, PA or Greenberg, PA (i guess that's in Pike Co) on the weather map when it Reports North Jersey area temps. The only resoning I can think of to put Pike Co, PA in the NYC DMA and not Scranton, PA DMA is many people who live in Milford, Dingman's Ferry, and other Pike Co towns work in Northern New Jersey or the NYC area and the traffic, weather, news, reports may affect there drive to work or friends in the area. Do many Pike Co people drive to Scranton, Wilkes-Berre to work? I know Blue Ridge Cable TV carries both New York City and Scranton, PA channels in Milfrod, PA but Cablevision in Pike Co, PA and Sussex Co, NJ droped WYOU CBS 22 Scranton, WBRE NBC 28 Scranton, and WOLF FOX 56 Scranton from its lineup and now only offers the NYC stations. At the time it was the only cable system to carry Scranton, PA TV stations in New Jersey and now some folks in PA (Matamorus i think) only get NYC stations.

Why Pike County is in the New York DMA

Easier to pick up the NYC signals on VHF from the Empire State Building. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is an all-UHF market.

You have people from New Jersey buying land for retirement homes in NEPa. Also, Sullivan County NY is further away from NYC than Pike County -- and Sullivan County is also in the New York DMA.

I believe Pike County became part of the New York City DMA around 2002. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton dropped three market sizes when that happened. Pike County was part of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at one time. WNEP still covers stories out there from time to time. WBRE/WYOU doesn't go out there at all. The New York stations don't either.
