Pine Bluff Radio

A recent check of Pine Bluff radio reveals:

KZYP-99.3 FM - In mono and overmodulated, a remote was being held at the Pines Mall.
KPBQ-101.3 FM - Completely off the air.
KCLA-1400 AM - Gospel music was audible over a loud hum.
KOTN-1490 AM - Operating at low power, barely covering the west side of town.

(The above mentioned stations are part of MRS Ventures, Inc., or Mediocre Radio Stations, Inc.)

KCAT-1340 AM - Long the local leader in Pine Bluff, featured nifty jingles over the weather, along with a gospel format. Fairly decent.
KTRN-104.5 FM - Continues with a A/C format that leans to the lighter side. Fairly good processing and interface with satellite format is o.k. Has a live morning show.

I listened to KXJK-950 AM in Forrest City for awhile. A good sounding station with a great signal in the delta. They must be doing pretty good, judging by the number of spots they had. A Classic rock/soul/lite A/C format was played and while quite odd, I enjoyed it. It was playing all hit songs from the past.

The MRS Ventures Pine Bluff cluster is the saddest group of radio stations I have ever heard. I mean I know that Pine Bluff is absolutely no garden spot, but you could make a decent regional station out of the 101.3 signal, and capitalize on the urban market with 99.3. KOTN has such a rich heritage with Buddy Deane and the history he brought to it... You would think that SOMEONE could capitalize on that. I think someone could come into that town and do radio right, and maybe make a decent living. I mean despite the fact that it is Pine Bluff, I have always said that there are 55,000 people in that town that could be served by a local radio station. It will be interesting to see what happens if anything to that market over the next several years.

I remember when Tom McBee tried to make a run of those stations...minus KOTN. They were sad back then but I agree with you...even then they had so much potential. That is...when you could keep the rats out of the transmitters.

BTW...where is McBee these days? I loved to hear from him again.

Mediocre? Mediocre is giving them too much credit.

BTW, Ruseell was in court today. Helen Deane and Craig Eastham sued over non-payment of a note. Russell was able to buy more time when his attorney quit on him. She's at least the second one to quit on him. Even attorneys realize he's too sleazy to deal with. Here's the attorney's withdrawal motion:

"Comes now, Stephanie A. Flowers, Movant, and for her Motion to Withdraw, states:

1. That Movant requests to withdraw as the attorney of record for Plantiff in this case, for the reason that the client insists Movant assert an issue in violation of Rule 3, of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, which would call Movant's integrity and ethics as an attorney into question and probable sanctions. Further, Movant states that the client has otherwise failed and refused to assist Movant in the defense of this case.
2. That Movant submits it would be in the best interest of Plaintiff to retain new counsel.
WHEREFORE, Movant prays this Court grant her Motion to Withdraw for the stated reasons.

Apparently Russell wanted her to do something that was not ethical. Imagine that!
