Pine Bluff

I heard that KZYP in Pine Bluff was back on. Apparently Andy Hodges got it back on the air and he's running... are you ready for this? Sports-Talk! Anybody know any details?

Great googly-moogly! The last local (sort-of) urban radio station in Pine Bluff and now MRS has really gone the wrong way to destroy that station for sports! DAMN!!!

And all of that work Floyd Donald and I did to keep it going! Talk about 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Andy Hodges, what the hell are you thinking in all of this? You killed Z-99!! DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!!!!

Sports talk is what Andy does. He knows it, he's good at it, and he can sell it.

Go with what you know.

My question is...did Andy LMA the station, buy it, or has he signed a deal with the devil?

That is a good question. I've last talked to Wendy (his wife) about what was happening in Cleveland, MS about three months ago about when the last time Russell and his camp ever came by or do anything for that matter. Now this was before Andy turned a once urban AC into "hut-one, hut two, touchdown!" statoin in Pine Bluff. So your guess is as good as mine.

As for the other stations in Pine Bluff according to other posts, I learned that the two AMs and KPBQ was going through a lot of flip-flops. Last time I was there over two years ago before I quit them, 'ZYP was still urban, KPBQ was still country, KOTN was still talk (or the lack thereof technically) and KCLA was on the bird with gospel with no identity of anything whatsoever. These stations were on the brink of deteriation. In fact they are.

I guess when you open the doors of 920 Commerce Road, it's nothing more than a ghost town of lost communication. I'm sure that Buddy Dean is probably rolling in his grave about all of this and why he want to sell the stations to a total imbecile like Jerry Russell.

'Sweep, I'm going to have to agree with Larry on this. I mean sure Andy can sell sports and put them there. He's done it before in Dallas and a few others that I cannot mention at this writing. Don't get me wrong. Andy is good at this format and selling them, point blank. But the question is how far will he go to keep it all "sported up?"

I don't know. He has already bargained with the devil. ;)

But in all seriousness...if Andy can make a go of it with sports, then good for him.

Last I heard, the other stations in that group - KOTN, KCLA, KPBQ - were all completely dark. What's their status now?

When I was in PB back in March, KZYP was the only station going; all the others were sending out distorted bleedver from KZYP. And both 1400 and 1490 were running extremely low power. A sad waste.

I say best of luck to Andy ... if he can pull it off, more power to him.

....the Russell who ruined Pine Bluff radio in the late '80s, not the one who ruined it today ;D
