Anyone got dirt on the firings at Clear Channel? I heard that ALex B, Niki, and some promo people got the boot. Anyone got a flier on this??? Anyone...Beuller?....

Big Changes At WRZX
Big changes at CLEAR CHANNEL Alternative WRZX (X103)/INDIANAPOLIS: Longtime MD MICHAEL YOUNG exits after 14 years at the station. YOUNG was also Creative Services Director.

Also exiting X103 are middayer NIKKI and pm driver ALEX B.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow! I can't believe Nikki is off the station. Hasn't she been around since (or close to) the beginning of the X?

Sounds like a couple of important people responsible for building the X into what it is today got let go. I wonder what's up Clear Channel Indy's sleeves concerning X103?

We shall see since someone is so concerned that someone was gonna flip to christmas and said ZPL was going to be the one i dont see it being ZPL cuz they just had a better book than one year earlier even if they went down from the previous book. If CC is gonna flip X which would be a shame since X Plays a lot of the new Rock. I Could see Q adding some of the new rock X plays and Q goes in a WEBN Direction down in cincy being the Rock Station while letting KLU and Jack battle out for Classic rock/Classic Hits battle while X flips to something else. But what wholes are there in indy besides someone to compete against Radio One and the Urban audience

I know the conspiracy theorists are always at the forefront when someone gets fired at a big station, but is it possible this was just a cost cutting move? If some promo people were let go, that doesn't sound to much like a format change move.

You have a point, and hopefully, the X isn't going anywhere. Ratingswise, the station appears to be successful, and Clear Channel is sort of a one stop shop for advertisers wanting to attract male demos in Indy. However, the loss of two weekday jocks and an MD has me wondering what's going on at the Fall Creek complex. If not a format change, perhaps a tweak in music and station presentation.

It doesn't matter WHO you are.

One day the powers that be wake up to how much they've been paying their on-air folks and decide that it's cheaper to voice track or get somebody young and stupid to work cheap.

NOBODY CARES.

The X faithful won't even catch on until after the holidays (if ever). If there's a big protest outside the Clear Channel headquarters with people carrying "Bring Back Nikki" signs, I'll eat my shoe.

NEXT!

It seems to me that it wasn't too long ago that there was a cadre of folks defending the corporate guys and dissing KLU. Where are those folks now? Enjoy more carnage at Fall Creek as CC tries to save themselves thirty cents more. Hey, by the way, did you know that if CC gets sold (it's for sale, for those of you who don't read the trades) and if the Mays's go away, Lowry, Randall and Mark each get SEVEN YEARS PAY PLUS ACCELERATED STOCK OPTIONS

That's the way radio has ALWAYS been. Very very few people in radio make very much money. There are so many talented people who are willing to work for low wages just to get in radio, that there's no reason for station ownership to pay very much. There'll always be someone, with talent, who's willing to work for less just to get the job.

This could be one of the most ludicrous posts I've ever read.... In addition to being poorly written, it lacks common sense. Why would Q95, the #1 adult station in the market for the past 15 years, concede their top-rated and top-billing position to a relative newcomer in WKLU and an unproven commodity in the re-formatted JACK? Just give up? Just concede defeat? Just drop classic rock? That's borderline insanity. WRZX, despite the poor state-of-affairs in the dwindling alternative format, is still in a good ratings position. This was, pure-and-simple, a Clear Channel cost cutting move to make up for, most likely, local and national revenue hits. The company is cutting back corporate-wide and in their mind, an off-air music director was no longer necessary (as were the other two jocks who were unfortunately laid off). Will this adversely affect X103? Time will tell. But Q95 and X103 aren't going away. Despite the budget/cost-cuts at Clear Channel, the stations remain solid brands with strong Arbitron positions.

(I hit post by a mistake)

So, that means that the Mays's, who fire every person in sight, walk away with about 50 million EXTRA in addition to the ONE BILLION DOLLARS their stock is worth (while they fire promotion folks who probably earn $30,000). Hmmmmm...kind of makes you respect what WKLU is about...doesn't it.

First, Chris Wheat, who had been around forever, gets the boot because CC "wants to take the stations in a defferent direction". then the X firings......

hmmmmmm ???

WEBN plays its fair share of Classic rock in cincinnati all i said was to add some of the new music X plays to the Q playlist but keep a majority of the Q Playlist as is. WEBN plays a Mixture of What Q95 and X103 plays. Looking at the last hour of WEBN's Playlist. the mix of the WEBN Playlist is 67 percent on the X103 side but there is a lot of Songs X103 wouldnt dare touch that q95 plays when was the last time you heard Aerosmith on X103.

And what is that?

LIVE jocks all the time. Respect for programming and the listeners. Limit the number of commercials, etc.

Attaboy qsky, quit theoroizing about possible shifts unless you actually have some proof. And I mean proof like when we all theorized that the PD at 93.1 had his "#1 Boss" mug in a box the day before Rick Dee's appeared on Indy airwaves.

X103 was hot 5-10 years ago, and it just doesn't get the heat it once did, and they are probably looking for some new blood, and trying to save a few bucks on Jocks that aren't carrying their weight in the cumes.

Look at what CC did to 96Rock in Atlanta. I see this as a possibility for Q95, albeit a remote. Since CC has a classic rock station in Cincinnati to flank WEBN. However, their Classic Rocker, WOFX is nothing near the quality of Q95.
