piolin is back in Houston

Yeah, 1180 Humble.....REAL high in the ratings....NOT!!!....After it was a top40 back in the 70s-early 80s, it has not been in the top 15 or 20....50kw day and really lights up the trailer park next to it....with the power lines running right through the main daytime lobe.....(and the pattern was supposively drawn up over drinks at a hotel in Houston before the license to cover was submitted to the FCC because they could not make the pattern work as predicted due to the location where they built the current site!)

Isnt this the same guy who was on Liberman's LaRaza 98.5 about 10 or so years ago or am I thinking of some other jerk.....I mean person (no I think I had it right the first time)??

Was he ever on 98-5? I remember him on 93-3 in morning drive, then was moved to 102-9 in the afternoons, but I don't remember Piolin ever airing on La Raza.

Doubt he's going to have much success on KGOL. This is the same station that ran dead air for months after the Biz Radio outfit went up in smoke. Why Entravision has held onto the stand-alone 1180 has been a mystery to me for some time.

When was Biz radio on 1180? I know they were on 650, 1110 and 1320. I don't remember that format on KGOL.

No, Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo has not worked for LBI since 1994 when he was on mornings on KWIZ-1480 in Santa Ana following a stint in overnights.

Like purpledevil said, no he hasn't been in La Raza. Or any other Liberman radio stations. I really don't know much about any of there money problems but I have heard on this radio board that the Libermans are having financial problems. Could Entrevision be a good candidate to buy one or all of their stations? And maybe move Piolín to FM?

As I just posted, Sotelo worked for Liberman over 20 years ago. He was my overnight guy on KWIZ in 1993, and when our morning show guy "became fired" I picked the guy who talked too much... Sotelo... to do mornings. He did a good job for a year or so until it was discovered he had some problems with his papers.

All of Entravision's latest moves have been towards having radio and TV in the same market, and the TV preferences are for affiliates of the major Hispanic networks. There does not look like much synergy for them in Houston as the Univision and Telemundo positions are taken.

Liberman has had money problems for years...Papa and Leonard run the stations with little input from others. The ones who can leave do...IF you are not in their circle of trust, you are not s**t there...spends MILLIONS on stations that did not help any....when LBI bought 96.9 and 101.7 down at Bay City area, Leonard spend WAY too much money for them and then flipped them to Spanish/Mexican programming. 96.9 and 101.7 battled it out for the top country station positions when they were owned by the former owners...the cost of the equipment and then the upgrade of 101.7 cost LBI $$$$$$ but as long as they pay the bank (Zion Back of California iirc) the note, noone really cared....until the income started to dry up....look at what LBI HAS sold in the past years:

96.9 to KSBJ, the 2000 ft tower at Devers to Tall Towers Ventures (and leasing it back....helps the bottom line as the rent can be written off while owning the tower is a capital expense and taxable plus maintenance, etc), I think the 2000 ft stick in NW Wise County that 93.7 is on and 700 KSEV finally was sold to Dan Patrick......there may be more too....but yes LBI is hurting for cash....mainly because they paid WAY too much in the early 2000s for what they did (the studios at Bering St was way overpaid!! Harris did a turn key install with VistaMax router and digital BMX consoles....and the jocks tore them up in a few weeks!!!) The networking install was way over priced; had a company do it for $150+ per drop....yet employees of LBI could have done it for.....basically nothing...they were already employed and trained on Cat V/VI...and then, due to poor planning, they had to run more cabling due to the On Air radio Scott Studios network being a separate network from the company IP network!!!

Papa wears $1000+ hand tailored suits...with gold stitching inside the coat stating such.....yeah, good way to spend the money....Leonard's big problem was his GM, Winter Horton who is a total idiot riding the Liberman's coattails and has no clue how to really improve ROI...all he does is worry about the bottom line since he gets paid off that (whereas other GMs get paid off the sales performance of the cluster)...

I stopped by LBI's Houston studios a while back to say hello to friend(s) still there...the girls at the front desk said "You got away from here? lucky YOU!" That said enough.....(different girls from when I was there..we had twin sisters working....WOOF!! :) )

Not for long, I think it lasted one whole week. After Biz was dropped from 1320 it aired on KGOL, then moved back to KXYZ momentarily, then on to its home at KTEK, where it was absorbed into Business 1110. I don't remember Dan Frishberg's Biz Radio being on KIKK. Wasn't that a different business format that ran on 650 during that time of the Pasadena daytimer's life?

When the format was on 650-KIKK, it was known as "Businessradio 650," with mornings covered by Brent Clanton. With Frishberg's backing, the format moved to 1320 KXYZ from 6AM-6PM. The format was essentially the same, which was developed by Brent. The move from KXYZ to KTEK happened when Frishberg purchased KTEK from Salem. I helped in the changeover, Brent sent changeover promos which aired during one week before the changeover. Within a few months, Brent and several others left because of the legal problems which was being experienced at that time. In 2009, it fell apart due to those legal problems. Without going to a lot of legal details, Salem basically repossessed it, for lack of a better description. I named it "Business 11-10." I put Ron Samuels in charge of KTEK as the program director.
