Pirate @ 96.9

Howdy,

If any Cox folks are reading, you may (or not) be aware that there is a pirate in the Decatur area that just nails 97.1 with so much adjacent channel interference that it sounds like AM static on the FM band!

I noticed it yesterday between I-20 and Memorial Drive while heading up 285, but it did not fully clear up until Northlake.

I sent an email to David Meszaros (could not find the FCC link or a CE email addy).

Lots 'o fun trying to listen to that mess...

Of more concern than the existence of the pirate station is the fact that someone on this board actually tries to tune in 97.1.

LOL I agree. What kind of pirate is this? 97.1 continues to be a joke. It is really sad that they still have this tired playlist.

I listened and it only appears to happen when Kate McCarthy is on? The pirate sounds like Jordan Graye perhaps some sabotage?

This part of town (Decatur/Stone Mountain/Lithonia) has plenty of pirates. I know of one that is actually pretty decent and run spots for business spots and nightclubs. I dare say who and where they are because the hate will begin, especially since its not oldies, country, alternative nor AC. ;D

Shawty they are at 98.9 fm. I have heard them on a Sunday Night, with non stop spots for all the night clubs on memorial, and covington hwy. They play Jamican? Music and Honestly theres too many commercials, and they are too damn hot. Dont mind the pirates, but when they cause interference for trying to listen to the radio then they become a problem.

i-LOL! Yeah, they've had a lot of people trying to shut them down, but they aren't going anywhere. Actualy, its 2 more that play Jamaican music too. A format that has a nice crowd in Atlanta, but not big enough for one of the big boy companies.

Ive heard those underground Reggea Pirates in A-town before and really enjoyed them.. When i first discovered a few of them I thought I was getting DX from the Carribean...... I dont know why some of the Local Urbans cant at least play a few Reggea songs, or even a Reggea specialty show once a week or so,, the audience is there for at least a specialty show...

And further more,,, 95.5 needs to go back to being a Dance Friendly CHR with a rhythmic lean cause they suck as a Hip Hop station,, too conservative on new music,,, and both Star and Q are too adult friendly... besides that,, if any of you have noticed, 95.5 has bad signal issues in dowtown, and anywhere west of Atlanta...

Guess you havent looked at the most recent ratings......

The people that matter don't seem to share your view.

Yes, but is it the NEW Pirate 96.9 FM? If not, I refuse to even try it.

If it were the NEW Pirate 96.9 FM, that would cause them to be shut down in a matter of hours for infringing on Cox's intellectual[sic] property.

Please don't get me started on 95.5's problems. The signal also sucks around the North Dekalb Mall/Druid Hills area too. They're still NEW after how many years??? Oh and #1 for Hit Music ooops I mean Hip-Hop.

Not sure that its a mess. I was up in that area last night for other things as well as this morning and there is nothing on 96.9FM at this time.

I agree, this station needs to go away along with 97.1. I thought they were going to improve the signal on 95.5? It is swallowed up completely in Virginia Highland area.
