Pirate Dance Station in Seattle

I'm still somewhat new to Seattle, so I was wondering if anyone has any scoop on the 101.9 FM pirate radio station that goes by "The Whore" out of the Capitol Hill section of Seattle. I've been listening to this station tonight, and I am very impressed with some of the music. And I get station signal really well in my new iPod nano with radio.

Ifd anyone knows where to listen to this station online, let me know. id love to check it out.. This is how Pirate radio can be done right, and such stations should be left alone... yet the pirates in NYC andNew Work, and Boston can get away with crappy music and dirty signals.. I would totally support a station like this, that actuall broadcadsts something worth listening to.

Not to mention that there is a very good legal dance station in Seattle: C89.5. Pirate stations do no good for the dance format. They also don't pay any royalties. I doubt an artist will find it flattering to have their songs played on a pirate station.

101.9 The Whore is the worst station name I've ever seen. It ranks right up with WPOT for the worst "call letters".

Yeah im not fond of WPOT promoting drug use,, I suppose The Whore could have picked a better station name.. I know of a few pirates with a dance format that are ran very well,, one os a buddy of mine,, I wont mention these stations here though, for abvious reasons. I doubt this stations is hurting our beloved c89.5 One of my favorite stations anywhere,, as it only covers the capital hill area..

Then you have Out 97 from Binghamton, NY, which was great having people automatically assume whoever listens to that station is gay.

I dont think Out 97 is a gay station, its not even all dance, but it serves the community well. I only have problems with pirates that are unprofessional and curse on air, overmodulate with dirty signals, and step on other stations.. If they are keeping everything clean and professional then what are they hurting???

True it's illegal. But what is right about some pirate stations: They typically don't sound like commercial dance stations all playing the same crap.

The only commercial dance station is 94.5 The Vibe.

That and Party 105 with its rhythmic dance/hip hop hybrid,, then we have dance factory in chicago with its Brokered dance during nights,, and also WBDG Indianapolis and Z88.9 South Jersey are all dance for a majority of the day,, WMPH is actually one of my fav stations, but it has the weakest signal, which is too bad as this formula could really work. C89.5 is the best because its a community school station and they have a full market signal and have stuck with dance since 1979, thats who my vote goes to as of now.

Pirates,, Schools, and the internet is all we have supporting dance,, they all need to stick together and just keep their signals and programing clean.

For Pirates we have the following

Liquid radio...One of the best for real underground dance.

Energy 87.9 with a nice mix of mutilple genres..

93.5 Mystery FM,, Also a mix of multiple genre's..

101.7--Z-102..Legal Part 15 in Hillsville Virginia.. All dance except Church services and gospel on Sunday mornings, and Solid Gold oldies Sunday at night, so all dance 6 days a week.

Out 97.. Binghampton NY... Alot of dance programing.

Energy 1620 South Indianapolis burbs... Legal Part 15 with hamilton rangemaster...

WMPR Short Wave Pirate... Hard trance leaning..

And who knows how many other LP stations are out there we dont know about...

I dont want to sound like an a$$ but Binghampton is in LI, Binghamton without the p located in Upstate NY (Sothern Tier) is where Out 97 is. Don't fel bad, this usually happens.

WMPH does not have a weak signal. It covers Wilmington Delaware completely, plus parts of jersey, PA and MD. Its 100 watts but does the job

But it is the weakest out of all the (legal) FM dance stations in the US. It covers from Elkton, MD up to exit 2 on the NJ Turnpike, and it overlaps with Z88.9's coverage area in NJ. WMPH's signal is strongest on the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Well I could tell aTechno DJ was just making a funny, but this board has so many nit pickers and they try to keep it as profesional as possible.. Its all good with me Techno DJ... BTW I want a new SW TX for christmas,,, a big one.... No more peaced together tube stuff with a scrap antenna on a clothes line.

"Real" pirate radio stations use home-made tube equipment. That's my opinion.....
I wouldn't want want some prepackaged thing with a digital display.
Too much like buying pre-packaged hot rod. A good deal of the fun is "rolling your own" equipment.
The music sounds so much sweeter on a transmitter you built yourself.

Yeah but I prefer a pre built NRG Kit that stays PLL Locked and has a clean stereo or mono signal,, I like to know that im not interfering with other stations, emergency services, or aircraft,, part of the reason why I stay at the low left end side of the dial..... I hear what your saying though..... Tubes are OK for SW though, but I only use SW sporatically,, once a month for maybe a 45 minute DX test... I am really a novice when it comes to SW,, so I dont want my signal getting into peoples appliances...hehe
