pirate in Dansville

This past week, I made two trips through Dansville. On both occasions, I heard what appears to be a new pirate on 88.9 FM. There were no IDs or other voice announcements to speak of. Just continuous rap and hip-hop music, complete with f-bombs. Signal was steady all through the village, and downtown sections, but quickly faded when heading out of town towards Arkport, due in part to co-channel WCIY from Canandaigua. I'd have to say the operator of this station made a poor choice of frequncy here. It seems to me that it's a little too close to WSQA in Hornell on 88.7. I wonder if anyone up there will notice.

Interesting format choice for such a "small town" place like Dansville.

Not if you think about it? White kids from smalltowns love to glamorize da gangsta life. Take them for a ride, drop 'em off in da hood and watch them soil themselves.

I can't believe I'm sitting here in Buffalo. The only town where you can have a good time without enjoying yourself.

When I was in high school, a hundred years ago, a couple friends and I put a pirate on the air. Our format was Mothers of Invention (Suzie Creamcheese what's got into ya) and Firesign Theatre (I spell my name Danger). We thought we were really on the edge of decency. How times have changed. By the way, I did continue on my broadcast career with some success, and one of my buddies (who shall remain nameless) definitly continued his and hit the "big time" and is still there!
