Pirate on 100.1 FM?

I was at the new Super Target this afternoon in Kannapolis. The shopping center is located just off Interstate 85 at Exit 54 in Cabarrus County. While I was there I tuned in XM Satellite Radio's classic country Christmas channel on 100.1 FM. The signal was very strong and didn't become unlistenable until I got to Exit 55. Is this a pirate or something else?

I have been told that often these extra channels are just satellite radio transmitters in people's cars that broadcast farther than normal.
Or maybe that dude was tailing you for an exit or two. You didn't cut anyone off, didja? ;D

The FM modulator that comes with any XM system I know of doesn't work on 100.1. Just the lower few and upper few channels of the band. Could be other systems out there that I'm not familiar with. Johnny, just wiggle ALL your fingers at them. That's a whole flock of birds.

Some plug and play XM radios have a mechanism that lets you pick the frequency. Thier signals can go about a quarter mile (I found that out when my car was picking up the signal outside my apartment, but the radion was plugged into my home system). As emntioned before, there was probably another car nearby on the road with you.

This has caused some issues with Howard Stern, et al, broadcasting into unspecting cars during traffic jams.
