Pirate on 104.7?

I was scanning the FM dial today and I came across a station on 104.7 playing non-stop oldies music without any commercials. After I listened for a while they identified as "KNHD the neighborhood."
I am thinking this is a pirate station because the only station that showed up in the FCC database with those call letters was an AM station in Arkansas, another reason why it might be a pirate station is because I have heard this station pop up before on the weekend and then disappear.
Does anyone know about this station, whether it is pirate or legit, and is anyone else hearing this station? The station is coming in pretty good with only some slight static here in West Sacramento where I am located.

From your description, it sounds like a Pirate.
Calling themselves K N(eighborhood) H(igh) D(efinition), maybe that is what the letters stand for.

I copied this station as well and it sounds like a pirate to me.

I thought at one point, K-LOVE and/or Air1 had a translator operating on that channel but can't seem to hear it anymore. It was probably taken off the air with all the recent changes with their signals in Sacramento.

Is there still a pirate station operating on 96.5?

Jammer Dave strikes again.

I heard it over by IKEA on I80. I had some elevation though.

Very nice!

I have a micro-transmitter used to broadcast live when recording the podcast. It's guaranteed to reach across the street.

Disclaimer: it's not on that frequency. 8)

Just that you posted, nothing more.

I realize how that appeared, I meant nothing of it.

I've only actually heard a pirate station once or twice; never in Sac. The last time was during a visit to Santa Cruz a year ago...while scanning the dial I picked up an incredibly strong signal on 101.1. Some obscure music and a lot of talk. Audio sounded professional and loud...way better than a college station would. I had no idea it was a pirate until one of the hosts busted the f-bomb several times!

I think the operator on 96.5 in Sac shut down some time ago...I thought the FCC found out about him. My recollection is he broadcasted in the downtown area. Anyone else know?

They had a tower in downtown and did nothing to hide their presence.

The building (at the base of the tower) had a sign and overall they had an impressive following.

I found the following:

Low-power FM's powerful pal
Sam McManis. The Sacramento Bee. Sacramento, Calif.: Jul 18, 2006. pg. E.1

Abstract (Document Summary)
Only two nonprofits in the area -- KDEE (97.7 FM) in Rancho Cordova-Citrus Heights and KDRT (101.5 FM) in Davis -- received LPFM licenses. Both went on the air in 2004, but their 100-watt signals don't reach Sacramento.

The one low-power station that does broadcast in Sacramento, KNOZ (96.5 FM), does so without a license. The "pirate" station recently was fined $20,000 and ordered to shut down by the FCC's San Francisco office. As of Monday, KNOZ was still on the air.

I am thinking this has to be a pirate station too. I normally listen to 104.7 - a hip hop station broadcasting from the inland empire, but one Friday I noticed the station switched to jazz. I thought, did a new station take over? But once I started driving further away from work, the signal got weaker and weaker, eventually hearing the station I normally listen to. I thought it was the weirdest thing, but attributed it to signals getting crossed or something. The next Friday, I turned the station on, and heard jazz again. The DJ finally came on and announced it as "Orange neighborhood radio." Since, every Friday after work I hear this station. The signal is very weak and fades the further I get from work. I was curious and tried looking this "Orange neighborhood radio" online, but found nothing. I finally found this discussion board, but see you all talking about a station in Sacramento, but I am hearing the station in Orange, CA. Maybe it's a group of pirates in various locations? So crazy, but not going to lie, I do enjoy listening to the jazz some days after a stressful day at work ;)
