Heard a FM signal on 97.3 FM driving between Clinton and Terre Haute this evening. Played mainly 80's music branded as "WEVX-FM". There is no WEVX in the FCC database or on radio locator. They have a website as well at wevxfm.com.
I've drove around tuned to 97.3 in Terre Haute and only heard fading audio from 97.3 WRUL Licensed to Carmi, Illinois. Othe then that I've heard nothing on 97.3.
Could it be a highly directional signal coming out of ISU? Were were travelling US 41 or IN-63 when you heard it? I can't imagine where the transmitter site would be, but it must have some decent power to be heard well over that long of a stretch.
I came across it about 5 miles south of Clinton on 63 all the way to about downtown. Even found a Facebook Page for this: http://www.facebook.com/wevxfm with several Terre Haute references. They put a status up a couple hours ago saying they were "off the air for repairs". Has to be some kind of pirate operation.
The FCC lists WEVX as being at 95.3 Mhz out of Rantoul, Il. But the station in question does have a website. http://www.wevxfm.com They have an "about us" page with nothing listed on it and a "contact us" page that only allows you to email them. No affiliations are listed and no city of origin.
