Pirate on 97.7?

Here In the villages on weekends, i hear what i think is a Pirate broadcasting spanish music at 97.7. I've been able to null it out and get WXTB, but sometimes it overpowers that.

I think I have heard that one on my visits to Ocala. I think it's based there.

I found a Facebook page for Fiesta Mix 97.7 Ocala. But naturally, there's nothing licensed to 97.7 there.

I didn't think there was.
It is pretty strong here but that could be my radio setup. Havewn't tried it in a car.

Must be a pirate, if no official info on it.

Many pirate stations even have websites, they are so bold.

I know there are a couple of LPFMs in Ocala (95.9 & 104.7); 97.7 not going the legal route is risky.

We had a pirate down in south FL I think running on 105.5 which was shut down, as it caused interference to aircraft. Recently one on 104.7 was shut down because it caused interference to keyless entry, of all things.

Didn't Florida adopt very strong laws to take down Pirates including manditory jail time? If so, have these laws ever been used?

You sure wouldn't know it here!

Seriously, although pirate activity here is lower in the daytime, you might be able to bag 15 pirates doing an FM bandscan at night....it also depends on where you are in the metro. Ft. Lauderdale seems to be a hotbed.
