Up until a couple years ago there were 2 or three pirate fm's in Anchorage, one in Spenard area and other in Muldoon. Lately I havent heard of any, you can do a search in the Anchorage Press, I think they covered them with some stories a while ago.
LOL.... If the press covered them, that could explain why they arent on the air anymore.... ;D Any idea what format any of these stations where? Im guessing they were some form of Rock, but thats just a guess.
One was rock (old & new) and the other was hip/hop, trying to go up against KFAT. Anchorage has a substantial black population and hip hop appeals to white, hispanic and pacific islanders also. Anchorage's blk, hispanic , pacific islander & asian population amounts to over 25% of the population. The Native American population is less than 8%.
If you are talking about Alaska, there is only one Indian reservation in the entire state, on Annette Island (Metlakatla), near Ketchikan, in Southeast Alaska. Indian reservations must follow FCC rules also for radio broadcast, and there are several tribal radio stations thru out the lower 48. Anchorage has KNBA-fm (Native Brotherhood) representing Alaskan Natives.
