PIRATE STATION AND DX'ing IN CLEVLEAND

I was at a friend from colleges house in Bedford this Sunday. I heard something interesting on the air as I was leaving... Certain stations were coming in clearer than Cleveland stations.

The clearest was MIX 102.7
Then I heard some strong Detroit FM's including 106.7 The Drive and and WDVD
Plus when I was on 480 over the bridge I heard Findlay's Mix on 96.7
and 94.5 XKR.

The only other thing is I was searching around on my radio and came across a pirate station. Has anyone else heard CLEVELANDS ROCK HEADQUARTERS 95 DOT 9

It was really interesting because the guy even had call letters and COL. Around 7:04 right after U2 "Where the Streets have no name" a professional sounding voice came on saying;

CLEVELANDS ROCK HEADQUARTERS ARE ON 95 DOT 9 WINZ INDEPENDENCE/CLEVELAND, ALSO ON 96 DOT 1 IN GARFIELD HEIGHTS/VALLEY VIEW IF YOU WANT TO ROCK, ITS TIME TO LOCK IT ON 95 DOT 9

Obviously this guy is a pro. There was liners between every song and one even said...

WE MAY NOT REACH THE WHOLE MARKET... BUT WHO CARES, THIS IS THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL.... CLEVELAND'S ROCK HEADQUARTERS 95 DOT 9

The last one I heard was a female DJ saying "THE IS JENNI ON 95 DOT 9, REQUESTED JOURNEY AND DISTURBED ARE ON THE WAY, COMING SOON LISTEN IN TO A NEW 96 DOT 1 IN PARMA" and then it spun off with the voice guy saying something about... "ROCKING THE VALLEY AND THE TERMINAL TOWER, THIS IS CLEVELAND'S ROCK HEADQUARTERS 95 DOT 9 WINZ INDEPENDENCE/CLEVELAND"

Has anyone else heard this station. It was coming in crystal clear to the 176 exit then it completely faded.

I used to live in Garfield Heights. There was a pirate on 95.9 back then too, back in early '04. A foreign language one (Russian?)

Anyway, that pirate always made it impossible to pick up London's 95.9. On a recent trip to Cleveland, I read in the Free Times that London's 95.9 switched to classic rock. Apparently the person who wrote that must have heard two classic rock songs played back to back on the station (as they've been doing for well over a decade) and based a story on that, because as soon as I was within CFPL 95.9's signal range, I heard them play the new Hot Hot Heat song.

Back to the subject at hand...what's the range on these pirates? If there's a 96.1 pirate in Parma of all places, I can see World Domination Headquarters putting a stop to that quickly. (Not that it would be listenable with all the cross-band modulation you get in a city lined with radio towers)

For that matter, what pirate station plays Journey? Makes me miss the days of 99.9 Raw Radio out of East Cleveland...

I'm taking this (original poster's) report with a grain of salt, as it's quite possible yet another construct of the mind of a certain board troll many consider to be involved in a small FM CHR station in Northeast Ohio. He made his biggest mark here as the one and only (or is that 12 and only?) "RADIOIRELAND". For whatever reason, he's obsessed with small Ohio markets like Zanesville, Mansfield and the like.

I'm not entirely sure "WIKZ" exists except in his mind.

That having been said, I miss the pirate here in the Akron area which paid tribute to WCUE, complete with some of the station's jingles. That was pretty fun. Last I'd heard them, they were running on weekends on 91.9 FM.
