Pirate Station near the WEBE 108 Smokestack

There's a new pirate station on the air in Connecticut. 106.5 seems to be near the WEBE 108 antenna, and definitely is a pirate. It can be heard for 10 miles. That pirate also transmits a spur at 101.4, killing reception of KC101. Who knows if it's transmitting a spur above 107.9? It's a Carribean format, what a surprise.

It's not new. It's been on the air since at least the Spring of 08. A former friend of mine was dating a girl who lived in Easton told me about the station back then. He said it had to be in Bridgeport because the closer he got to Bridgeport the stronger it got. Keep in mind I'm not condoning Pirate Stations, but I'd rather hear Caribbean music than the schlock that passes for music on KC 101.3 these days, so I'm glad their signal gets blocked. :p

I'm sure the employees of KC101 don't like the pirate. Listeners heading east or west on I-95 who pass through Bridgeport while listening to KC101 will hear the pirate station, and then change the station. KC101's signal is good for 20 more miles west. Luckily for Clear Channel, they own 2 CHR stations people might flip to (Z100 or Kiss 95.7), but there's also 106.1 BLI.

Next time you fly, would you rather have the pilot hear Carribean music or the ATC towers? The spur on 101.4 can be heard 5 miles from Bridgeport, the main 106.5 signal can be heard 10 miles, who knows if there are spurs in the aviation band?
The only positive if there's a spur above WEBE's frequency is that the FCC will shut down the pirate sooner, in a matter of days rather than years.

The pirate station also kills the reception of most NYC stations in downtown BPT. I don't mind the reggae but when it crosses over into other frequencies it gets annoying.

Which other frequencies does the pirate station bleed on to? There will probably be a lot of intermodulation with WEBE 108's 50000 watt signal.

What? An actual pirate outside of New Britain and not in spanish with a religious format? What will they think of next?

Ouch! You had to go there DJ! By the way, the one I dealt with last summer down the street on 87.9 FM (New Britain) is long gone! The spot where their "church" was says FOR RENT OR LEASE NOW. Hmmmmmm!
