Pirate station on 90.7 in Brooklyn!

nd2023

Banned
As I was going through Brooklyn tonight, I scanned the dial just to see how many pirates there were. The biggest surprise was tuning to 90.7 and hearing a pirate station instead of WFUV! The pirate was interfering with WFUV for a few miles. I could not believe the pirate station was so stupid as to choose 90.7 when 90.9 was clear. 90.5 also had a pirate. Every second adjacent to the full power stations had a pirate, many first adjacents had pirates. Most of the full power stations didn't come in HD because their first adjacents had pirates. There are so many pirates that they have started using the same frequency as full powered stations.

What part of Brooklyn? I haven't noticed this before. You say 90.9 was clear?

Recently a Haitian pirate has been blasting at 90.9 from the Flatbush/Ditmas Park area and messing up both WFUV's and WFMU's signals (at 90.7 and 91.1). But I'm not sure if they're 24/7. Many pirates only broadcast nights and/or weekends. I've noticed the Haitian pirate broadcasting on various weekends (pretty much the only time I'm ever in Bklyn) and obliterating WFMU's signal in Kensington, Ditmas Park, and other nearby areas.

I've noticed the 90.5 pirate before. I think I've also heard one at 89.7 messing up WKCR.

These guys would never be able to engineer a good AM operation, as we remember from "back in the day"!

If you want to help WFUV solve this problem on 90.7 in Brooklyn fill out this form:

WFUV Interference Complaint Form

Are you having consistent reception problems with WFUV due to interference from other signals? Describe them to us, and we'll forward them to the FCC and ask them to investigate.

http://www.wfuv.org/audio/receptionform

You can also report any problem with unlicensed transmitters on the broadcast bands directly to the FCC:

http://transition.fcc.gov/eb/PIRIX/

And the FCC does go after these pirates, here's their story on a $10,000 fine they recently confirmed against a pirate in the Bronx:
