Pirate stations on 96.5 and 95.1

These 2 pirate stations have been on since last summer. 96.5 was Streetz 96, and it was strongest in Newark, NJ. 95.1 was playing AC music, and was strongest in Secaucus, NJ. 96.5 could be heard all the way in New Brunswick, NJ, about 25 miles from Newark, and it interfered with WQXR and WRDW!

Why isn't the FCC shutting them down? In 96.5's case, I heard commercials for nightclubs and even a real estate agency. 96.5 must be running over 1000 watts from one of the high rise buildings since it goes very far and competes with WQXR. The easiest way to limit the range of 96.5 is if WQXR gets IBOC.

I get 96.5 in Staten Island too. They must be on a tall building. The FCC does nothing as usual. :

There's an old saying that goes, "It takes chaos for people to show their true colors", and that pretty much sums up the FCC in a nutshell.

When pirate activity consisted of 2 or 3 stations run by "broadcast enthusiasts / hobbyists", the FCC had no problem acting like bullies, enlisting the help of federal marshalls to threaten operators at gunpoint and sieze their personal property.

Once the amount of stations outnumbered actual agents - run by people selling advertising, doing adult material or worse (in some cases, being run by street gangs), they went running for the hills with thier phony-baloney, paper-pushing tails between their legs. Then of course, there are pirates serving ethnic communities that have run untouched for almost 15 years now. Great job, FCC - what are there now - two dozen pirates on in the NYC area at any given time?

Oh, if only I had a time machine 20 years ago so I could see what was going on now. I wonder why former field officers aren't coming out of retirement to get these guys the way they did to get people I knew back in the day.

My lifelong suspicions have merely been confirmed - nothing makes a group of thugs and punks run like bigger groups of thugs and punks.

Pirate radio is a big deal in Boston too. most are oriented towards the Caribbean American population. They have call in shows, websites, bumper stickers. Choice FM (102.9) seems to be the biggest operation.
