Pirates Arrg!

How come there aren't any pirates in Northern Passaic, West Milford, Hewitt area? All the pirates are near cities like Paterson or Newark or Jersey City? I wondered that. I'm sure someone up in that area who can receive NYC stations wouldn't know the difference.

Because pirates are usually done by non-whites, hence all the urban junk and non-english pirates. Lawbreakers that people typically expect.

My sense is that most of these pirates, at least in the New York area, are programming Caribbean music (Spanish or Jamaican or West Indian). Is that generally true? And if so, it's a curious phenomenon that has to have some sort of explanation.

Yes, most are programming Caribbean music. Why is it a "curious phenomenon"? My guess is that there is a large number of people that fit that culture, within the area in which they are broadcasting from. And they seem to be passionate about their music and community. What other explanation could there be? It's not really that intriguing of a "phenomenon". Rap, Rock, Pop, Spanish, etc. are all on the radio dial, but Caribbean/Jamaican music isn't.

So true Macker, buying a full scale full size radio station is financially out of the question, thus their alternative, problem solved on a smaller level for a little while until they catch the attention of some they'd prefer NOT to have listening to them....

Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire 104.7!!

Remember Streetz 96 from Newark?  Looks like X96.3 made the complaint, but they moved to somewhere on 106.

Who can forget this legendary pirate that flooded themselves in 3 different frequencies.

Best thing about these pirates is they always bill themselves as #1 for their format.

Thanks for proving my point above d21ofnj. Suburbanites typically don't have the time, rather listen to an english AM/FM station of their choice or a CD/their iPod.

Macker: Then you have a radio dial full of other languages/culture on the radio instead of assimilating as they should. Non-english TV/radio makes it worse along with other things in their native language. Bad precedents all around.

West Milford (WM's) semi-rural but still come on? I guess that makes sense we are short spaced with the locals from NYC and the distants from Pougkeepsie there's not much room.
