Pirates on 1047 next year

Yep, I'm a die hard Pirate fan and one thing I would hope 104.7 will do is launch a spirited after the game Pirate call in show to discuss the game with the audience. WTAM in Cleveland goes a couple of hours after the game talking about the tribe, also, correct me if I'm wrong but WLW and in the past KMOX did after the after the game talk for their respective teams why not in the 'Burg next year?
It has always disapointed  me that when I go to a game, by the time I get to my car(normally in the 6th street garage) KDKA is back into talk format mode. When a game ends on Sunday afternoon Cris Moore(nothing against his show) is on the air maybe 15 minutes after the close of the game!
Come on Clear Channel, make us Bucco fans proud next year with after the game banter! ( Heck your sales staff could also sell it !) ;D

Jim, I agree.

Once upon a time the Bucs didn't have a call-in show per se after the game, but it was hard to tell because guys like John Cigna and Perry Marshall were big fans who could talk baseball. Marshall had a friendship with Chuck Tanner and while Marshall wasn't covering the team like a reporter, he had an in and there was good, if lighthearted, baseball talk on the air.

For a time there was even a guy named Chris Cross on the air who went on to work in sports radio in Chicago. Cross was also a passionate supporter of the Pirates (when they were very bad) and may have given Bruce Keidan a lead-in to his sports talk career (and possibly a thousand other sportswriters in Pittsburgh?) by having him on a lot after the game.

Cross would give a positive perspective, Keidan would be critical, but eventually it had a great impact- for instance one day in 1985 Keidan wrote a column supporting Pirates fans to come to a Sunday game to prove they wanted baseball to stay in the city and the game was the largest attended of the season save for opening day.

After the departure of Cross, however, with it went the post-game call-in show. The hosts they had on after the game could not have cared less about the game that preceded their show.

I have even theorized that part of the reason for Jim Leyland's reputation was when he took over the Pirates there was no call-in show after the game to criticize him if he made a bad move or what not. By the time you could call Myron or Stan the next day for a public comment, your anger had mellowed.

I know KDKA tried experiments with the post-game call in show with Corby and Tolo in the mid-90s. These failed, I believe, primarily because they were hosted by Corby and Tolo.

Cigna's baseball talk was a joke. I remember one time when he chastised the Pirates for not having Dave Parker bunt because it was just "good fundamental baseball." He also talked endlessly about some Pony League team he managed.

Chris Cross used to go over to Froggy's and get loaded when the games were on. One night he came back and was so drunk that the producer called the station manager and told him he didn't think Chris was in any condition to be on the air. They played music that night, and Cross was soon gone.

Thanks for the heads up Pratte, and sorry to all for forgeting the "." in 104.7. I never got on the Pirate band wagon until the year of the "Freak Show" so this history is good to store in my cranium, you see I'm from Cleveland and was a die hard Indian fan for years.
After watching these kids play ball after the All Star game I believe we Pirate fans have hope in the '07 season to be competitive and it would be nice to have some sober post game chit chat on a hot summers night... sure beats re-runs of George Norey or Glenn Beck. ( Nothing against Glenn mind you but what palys after 10pm at night I heard during the day while out on the road on sales calls.)
