Where are the pirates on 87.9 and 91.9 transmitting from?

I've also noticed another on on 99.9.

Re: Pirate on 96.7

I've noticed a pirate on 96.7. They play music in a foreign language. I can't tell what language it is. I can pick it up pretty well in Jersey City.

The FCC hasn't seemed to be too angry...the 91.9 pirate has been on the air for YEARS, and there are at least 15 pirate stations on FM just out of Brooklyn alone, most of which have been on for many months if not a year or more.

When I visited NY last, one of those pirate stations aired the Boomtang boys version of dancin' with myself, if that counts, but I forget wether it was 91.9 or...

I've caught 91.9 airing dance music on Friday nights.

Hello ladies.. I see you girls are talking about me.. To answer some of your questions No we didn't have high speed internet back in 1994 when WBAD Radio was on the air... Do your Homework Don! Your lame and your radio days are numbered! WBAD Radio was on top in NYC for a LP pirate radio station in the early 90s. Look at my fans at www.myspace.com/cintronics and learn ladies. I don't know who you are and I never heard of you Don.. So wake up buddie.. I'm out! The Outlaw of the Airwaves DJ Cintronics

91.9 FM doesn't have "A PIRATE" broadcasting on it. There are many stations clustered on that frequency. Being the only reasonably open frequency in New York City, you'll find various signals coming in and out as you move around the City.

I've heard stations that originated in Queens, some from Brooklyn, some from the Bronx, etc. I believe there was actually one in Washington Heights (little DR) -- where I live.

I've also heard some spanish music pirates on 94.5 FM, messing up 94.7 WFME's reception. Some of the pirates sounded VERY nice for what they were. Others....like tin cans. For obvious reasons none of these have lasted very long. :D

Formats are a mixture. Some specialize in Dominican music, others Caribbean, some are religious, others do underground and old-school hip-hop.

When I lived in Queens in the mid-90s, there was one broadcaster coming out of Brooklyn who called himself "Nasty Radio". Format was dance/club music (trance, techno, house type stuff). Really awesome music -- the station even got a write-up in David Hinckley's Daily News radio column.

Shortly after that, the station disappeared. DUHHHH. I don't understand why that pirate ever offered to speak to the press, that's just suicide right there. :(

Oh yeah and by the way.. I did have a House/Dance mixshow every Friday nights.. It was HOT! KTU was not around back when I did a Dance and House. In 1994 and 1995 NYC didn't have Dance Stations. So yeah, your welcome NYC!!

I didn't agree to talk to the press.. They were doing the story with or without my permission.. I didn't want to do the interview but I was backed in a corner.. Someone was out for the only Hip Hop station in NYC (Hot 97) back in 94-95 and my staff invited the press behind my back when I told them HELL no to the press interview.. That's the only reason they shut me down.. I had a clean signal and didn't bother any other stations. I know pirate was not the right thing to do but you can't change history.

Thanks for the love Stephanie! I'm keeping clean and I'm doing everything legal.. Those pirate days are behind me and hopefully one day I can take on a station as PD. Keep in touch! www.myspace.com/cintronics

There's pirates that I can hear in Northern Queens on 87.9 (Caribbean), 88.1 (Hispanic), 88.7 (Hispanic-sometimes), 89.3 (Hispanic), 89.7 (Hispanic), 91.9 (hip-hop, dance, all sorts of stuff with an amazing signal at night, and sometimes in the daytime a different pirate with Jewish talk programming and a weaker signal), 94.3 (Caribbean), 94.5 (Hispanic), 95.1 (Caribbean), 96.7 (Caribbean), 97.5 (Caribbean), 99.9 (Caribbean), 103.9 (Caribbean), 104.7 (Caribbean), 105.5 (Gospel), 106.3 (Caribbean), 107.9 (Caribbean), and I know there's others scattered around throughout the city. A few months ago I was able to hear an Israeli pirate on 92.1, for example, but ever since WXRK switched on the HD sidebands, I can't hear it, so I don't know if they are still on the air or not. There were also strong pirates on 99.1, 101.5, 102.3, 103.1 but I am not sure if they are still on since in my area I get NJ 101.5, WBAB or B103 on those frequencies with a weak signal.

A couple of weeks ago I also heard a pirate on 99.3 with hip-hop in Central Queens.

I hear you Neo... Its been over 10 years with Pirate radio and I never looked back. I moved on to better things. Legal radio stations and Sirius.. I also DJ on Ustream.Tv.. Its better to do a radio show on the internet. You can get more listeners worldwide on the net then a LP Pirate Radio station.. For more info on my radio shows check out www.myspace.com/cintronics

Yeah, things have gotten quite a bit outta control from what I remember in 1995. It's fun, actually -- finding all these little "stations between the stations". 8) ;D

Go ahead and laugh [EDIT] ;D Yes, Pirate radio today is a waste of time to do.. Nobody cares anymore including the FCC.. That's why there are so many popping up.. With so many radio options like XM, Sirius, HD Radio, FM, AM and internet your days are numbered.. Its all about talent now.. You have no talent!! Now your in danger of losing your AM job.. LMAO. AM radio?? Come on!! Your better off doing CB buddie... Nobody listens to AM! Wake up! I can run a station with no staff 24-7 and be on top! That's Talent! [EDIT]
