Pirates

I can't stand them anymore. Here's a list of at least 3 pirates I've found:
89.1: Fall River with Spanish religion which also interferes with WUMD.
96.7: Somewhere around Providence doing Haitian programming which interferes with WTIC-FM.
103.1: Weekend pirate from Winsor St. in E.P. which interferes with WODS (you can see the antenna on the house).

Also there may be:
91.5: Spanish religion from Fall River. The signal was bleeding over to 91.7 & overmodulated in Somerset (but this could be WRJI).

Finally:
107.7: Haitian which I haven't heard in awhile.

Rememberance:
530: "AM 530 Main Street" a rap pirate broadcasting from a club which I only heard once- on New Year's Eve 1995 into 1996.

F.C.C., please wake up!

The FCC doesn't care. There are several high power ones in Boston that get out even better than these do. "Big City 101.3" gets out about 20 miles in some directions, and they've already been given fines and threats from the FCC. It does no good these days, unless you're in Florida, where state law allows the police to arrest people for operating a pirate radio station.

The FCC cares, but they are way understaffed and have to prioritize.

If they were to shut down the pirates in NYC, Hartford, Boston and Providence/Fall River, theyd have to have dedicated enforcement officers in each city.. because as soon as the pirates got shut down, they'd start back up.

And I know they're breaking the law and regardless of whether or not you agree with the law, it's illegal, but is it a victimless crime? So a pirate may interfere with another station's signal. BFD. Maybe if the other stations did less cookie cutter radio people wouldn't see the need to find pirates they actually enjoy.

It is a B.F.D.! I happen to enjoy WUMD/89.3 which is NOT cookie-cutter radio! That's the U. Mass. Dartmouth student/community station. I also like DXing WTIC-FM & whatever I can on 107.7. What the pirates should do is buy time on a LEGAL station! But, no they can't have that, can they? There are plenty of A.M. stations out there with available time but instead these pirates buy F.M. transmitters & start interfering with legal stations! It's akin to if I were to buy a plane & fly it anywhere & whenever I wanted! I'll LAND it wherever I want as well! To hell with the F.A.A. (& F.C.C.), right? After all, if the airline industry had more comfortable seats then maybe I'd choose to go legal! Speaking of planes, these F.M. pirates could very well screw up aircraft communications in the 108-137 band due to I.F.s!

Pirate list:
89.1: Fall River Spanish religious pirate.
89.3: Haitian pirate in Brockton.
96.5: Portuguese pirate in Brockton.
96.7: Haitian pirate in Providence.
103.1: Non-IDing pirate from Winsor St. in East Providence.
107.7: Haitian pirate in low-fi mono (could be defunct).

I haven't heard any A.M. pirates since the Haitian pirate in Brockton on 1620 was shut down.

I don't think 96.5 in Brockton is Portuguese, but I'm not sure exactly what language it is. Here's their website: http://www.brocktonheat.com/

There's also 94.9 in Brockton, which has a signal that's just as strong, if not stronger than 96.5:

The 1620 pirate moved to 1710 when the TIS came on 1620, and they're as strong as ever.

Thanks. These will be good reads! So the Brockton pirate is on 1710? I'll have to check that out on Saturday. I'll also have my radio on 224.06.

Absolutely ignorant........ imagine if that person ran the FCC!!

Some information.
89.1 is in Fall River on South Main St.
96.7 is up near the North Providence line, off of Mineral Spring Ave, near 146.
107.7 is in Pawtucket up off of Newport Ave, south of Central.
