This song samples Calabria too. In fact it has a more Clubby House feel than the Enur track. It has a more distinct 4/4 beat. Im surprised more Dance stations arent playing this. Well, Lil Jon has said before that he is a Dance fan, so hopefully we will here more clubby Hip Hop tracks in the near future. ;)

MWC,dance stations won't play it cos it don't have a twirly girly diva singing about her boyfriend on it...lol...

Well stations from the past likw Hot 97, KPWR L.A, WPOW MIAMI KYLD all would be all over this if they all were still Dance stations, I dont see why this is any less dancy than the Enur track. In fact I like Pitbull and Lil Johns version better. And it is more Housy, while they Enur track sounds more Reggaeton to me.

yeah, but they're NOT,and what's left is obsessed with one mindset, one 'sound',one approach and nothing else, whereas the kids that dance to hip hop accept everything from Usher To "Laffy Taffy" to 50 Cent to alicia Keys to Lil Jon and everything in between, and that's why hip hop wins, and dance remains the miniscule novelty in this country that it now is...

the bulk of the playlist appears to be hip hop r&b reggae
It's always been that way, even the last time it was a real R/chr. Power definitely sounds like a "fun" station that is in tune with the market- I don't think Power should be doing things any differently. We've had lots of bad news in 2007, so perhaps we're just a little used to only reporting the negatives. It looks like 2008 is off to a great start.

Power 96 is more Dance friendly these days, and that's been the case over the past year/year and a half. It was very heavy on Dance from its sign on in 1986, and up until 2000. They were already very Hip Hop oriented when Party 93.1 signed on, but at the time Power 96 still played records like Modjo's "Lady", and Gigi Gigi D'agostino's "I'll Fly With You".

I remember, I think ATC-Around the World was one of the last Dance hits Power 96 had in regular rotation. This station is slowly becoming more like its old self, but its not quite there yet. They still dont have any Dance Friendly Mixshows, and Y-100 is still playing more Dance than Power if ya count the Mixshows on Y-100.

You guys brought up some interesting songs I now remember hearing on Power, but I also recall they heavily dayparted the last few years they were dance friendly. No dance songs were played after the evening commute, whereas this time the dance songs are getting play throughout the entire day. As far as Power playing dance music, correct me if I'm wrong but "World Hold On" was the first dance song they started playing (which was late spring, 2007), then they broke Enur, and they added both DJ Laz "Move Shake & Drop" and "Love Generation".

Here's an interesting interview I dug up on FMQB from May 2007 with the OM of Power...
"...On how a dance record like Bob Sinclair “World Hold On” found its way into rotation, and how the audience reacted… The audience reacted extremely positively to it. It kind of goes back to the traditional Top 40 days and Power 96 is playing the hottest 25-30 songs that are available to us right now, and Bob Sinclair happens to be one of them. One of the things that we’re not going to do is, because of the success with Bob Sinclair, it doesn’t mean that we’re all of a sudden going to be adding Dance music – unless we see a story or we feel that that will further our goal. That’s what happened with the Reggaetone thing. [snip] "

With arguably 3 dance songs charting, which is it, they see a story, or they feel it's going to further their goal?

neither Enur or DJ Laz are regarded as 'dance' in the traditional sense for most of the people round here; they are both floor fillers at THE BUNKHOUSE,bay-beeeeee!!!

I agree neither song counts as "pure dance" but the point I was making was that the station took a risk by being one of the first stations to play either song, neither of which is "pure hip hop" either. The Power 96 from 2004 or 2005 wouldn't have debuted those records. On the subject, today I caught what seems to be a new feature on Power; a daily celebrity gossip update. What was interesting about the gossip update (besides the flamboyant host which probably signifies an affluent demographic which Power might cozy up to in the near future) was the songs used as the music bed. It was all 90's dance songs, the likes of Blackbox "Everybody Everybody".

ENUR IS A DANCE RECORD. WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP THIS BS ABOUT WHATS NOT A DANCE RECORD AND WHAT IS. YOU WANNA KNOW WHY WE HAVE ISSUES WITH THE DANCE GENRE, HERE IS ONE OF THEM RIGHT NOW.

Enur is definately Dance,,,,, They are on Ultra after all,,,, But so is The Pitbull and Lil Jon song, which has an even more housey beat to it. If you think a song cant be Dance just because it has rapping on it, or feature's a Rapper, thats yet another problem we have with dance is the refusal of Dance and Hip Hop acts to co exist. You have to admit the Pitbull track is alot better than the Shoot Em Up Gangsta Rap, and the Candy Rap---Shawty this, Shorty that, thats been released the last 5 yrs. Back in the early 90s lots of Dance songs had Rapping on them and therefore were played by all Dance-Rhythmic-Urban and some trendy Top 40 stations. AKA Marky Mark, Heavy D, KLF C&C Music factory ECT.. Ever heard of Hip House, or Latin House, I would say the Pitbull track fits into that genre, it reminds me of stuff like Artie and One Man Party-Esa nena Lena, and Mighty Dub Kats-Magic Carpet Ride,,,, Anyone remember these forgotten classics that KPWR played alot at the time, So did WPOW, KKFR, and WBBM... KPWR wasnt even pure Dance by this time, they leaned on Hip Hop since about 92-93 but still played Urban-Latin friendly Dance songs and still had Dance Mixshows throughout the day. like DJ Enrie.....
