PITTSBBURGH PPM NUMBERS

The results are in... and DVE is crushing everyone (there's a suprise).

KD is #2 despite a cume that's not even in the top 10. Same old people all day long.

But.... BOB-FM is #4, just edging 104.7 (with cume as bad as KD's) and 3WS.

100.7 had their best numbers ever, as has been the case with this kind of format in many PPM markets.

Kiss and B94 are sharing the same people.

The combined Frogs would rank 9th, behind the X but ahead of Star, Kiss, B94 and Q92.9.

WAMO-FM showed with about half the number we had been seeing, but I believe this is a 3-month rolling average (that's why there were no numbers for 90 days) and some or all of the last month was a zero after they signed off.

WDUQ beat 1250. WQED and WYEP also showed.

970 showed, which it rarely did in paper diaries.

WVAQ from Morgantown also showed...listen carefully... all that means is that there were meters in Fayette County. It is not a commentary on B94 or Kiss, Q102 just comes in better down there (and the fact that Fayette County is in the book is just stupid anyway).

JAS and KQV can turn out the lights....

1) Is this good for Q92.9? looks like a big jump up for them.

2) Does this mean one Daisy hops all the Frogs? Guess Squirell Hill is important for country since 104.3 fades on Forbes St.

3) Does WPTT have even one listener?

4) This ranking looks less radically different from the old rankings compared to other cities changes from diaries to PPM. Or I'm I confused as usual?

WPTT is double-listed, sort of... they are now WMNY which had a .1....

And if there is less difference here than in other markets, it might mean that people here filled out diaries more accurately than they did elsewhere.... old folks were historically the best diary-keepers (what else did they have to do?).

Old people can post here using names that pay tribute to 60's Top 40 radio

And, sadly, they do.

And that makes "Boss Radio" and "MsMusicRadio" a bi-coastal couple?

Who gets to be in a KOMA?

I'm kind of surprised that B 94 and Kiss are neck and neck now in the ratings. In August, B 94 was actually ahead of Kiss. Star and the X had a big jump in the ratings as well. It will be interesting to see what station the former WAMO listeners tune into.

One possibility is that the two CHRs are more even now because the WAMO listeners, who had either B or kiss as their second choice, are now not listening to the radio as much in favor of iPods and other media.

Part- Like your analysis. Always a little cynical, but regardless.

One thing I'd like to discuss with you is CUME rating. Is it fair to hold them to the same standard for music and talk stations?

Give you an example. The talk stations don't have the CUME of the music stations.

But what I notice is when I listen to talk, I stay tuned through the commercials. When I'm listening to music and the commercials come on, I'm flipping the buttons on my car radio and finding the other station.

I noticed I was driving around yesterday and had the radio on WDVE. They were playing something boring so I flipped around- and two of the stations I stopped on were BOB and 3WS as they often play lively classic rock songs.

The point is, a talk radio listener will tend to be older, but they also might stay on the dial- as you pointed out.

And if I'm Giant Eagle- one of the few sponsors I stayed to listen to on WDVE- might that allow me to buy on a talk radio station before a music station?

Also, could the listener that flips around be counted several times on a CUME rating?

Lets take this in reverse order ... yes, every time a listener tunes back in that's new cume, it's like hits on a website.

I'm assuming you're talking about KD with the cume conversation. And to be honest with you, now that you bring it up I looked at the cume of a similar station, WFLA in Tampa. Theirs was only about 50,000 more, and their lineup is a heritage morning show, Beck, Rush, a local conservative Todd Schnitt in PM drive, and Hannity evenings on delay (and they aren't splitting it with another credible talk station like KD is with WPGB). Their sports station, by comparison, also has more cume than KD but a much lower AQH as sports talk listening is more guys getting in and out of their cars all day. I'll have to look at some other markets (but it's tough right now vbeacuse we're one of the smallest markets on PPM and the next wave isn't due to go live for a while).

And taking your first point last, where am I cynical? I prefer to see myself as realistic (but don't for ONE MINUTE confuse me with that Realist guy....).

And in my realism, there is an all soccer station with a morning team of Sir Michael and Miguel called "Cold Fish and Chips and Cold Paella".

Sorry
