Pittsburgh questions?

I live in the Philly area, my family has always been interested in cities, and actually wanted to see Pittsburgh after finding the sports musuem online. I was checking online, and the Pittsburgh area seemed to have quite a lot. (it being one of the last cities with a day's drive from us we haven't seen) Can anybody tell me a bit about what to do there? And what radio stations are "family-appropriate"?

So far, I'm starting out with 106.1 WISX Philly to 103.3 WARM York to 104.1 WINK Harrisburg. After that, I'm stuck.

It's alright as long as it's an AC, Hot AC or CHR that's appropriate for a 6 and a 7 year old. And no, I'd prefer if something else would be there, like a Classic Rock or Active Rock.

Philly radio's got quite the dirty mouth, so I may just be worrying for nothing.

Thanks in advance!

I think you'll enjoy Q92 for Hot AC (locally owned), Froggy at 94.9 or 104.3 for country (owned by Keymarket), Bob 96.9 for Variety (again owned locally), and if you want Classic Hits like WOGL try 99.3 the Pickle (owned by Keymarket) For a more mainstream AC type station, there's WSSH at 99.7.

All these stations have local ownership so supporting them would be a great thing. And I don't believe you'll find any non family friendly issues on any of them.

Just a suggestion-----traveling through Central PA, you might want to consider 101 the Rose over WARM or WINK. Again owned by a small company and definitely family friendly.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. I'll give all of them a listen.

Also, about when do you usually start to pick up the Pittsburgh FM's on the turnpike?

Well, Harrisburg is a pretty decent market. I was gonna swap to CD after Harrisburg's FM's go out.

What a dumb-ass notion. Geezuz! You might want to add, "where only the owners make money." We all know that this entire board is infested with anti everything that isn't the same as 25 years ago, but answer the man's question.

You might also consider 94.5 3WS, which features former Eagle 106 jock, Mike Frazer in PM drive. Star 100.7 is a sort of lame "adult CHR, 107.9 is CBS country. 102.5 WDVE is one of America's most enduring and highest rated, major-market rock stations. Morning drive is not likely to pass your litmus test with the kids but, great station.

Very, very interested in WDVE! It sounds like it is worth a listen.

If you're looking for some fun things to do. There are a ton of museums in Pittsburgh. Two of the best are the John Heinz History Center in the Strip, and the Toonseum which is a short walk away on Liberty Avenue. The History Center showcases the history of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. The Toonseum has exhibits that change every other month and highlights cartoon and comics on a wide spectrum. I'm sure you and your family will like both places.

I did answer the mans question. Gave him stations to listen to. Nothing wrong with supporting local ownership. DVE does not cut the mustard in regards to being "family friendly." Although it is a great station.
