Pittsburgh Radio may really suck now

Pittsburgh just lost three music outlets . WDUQ could be next if it is sold to evangelicals broadcasters. WPGB broadcasts a line-up that should be on AM. WORD is not (in my opinion) a format for the upper band or even FM. If I was a young person, I'd be digusted . In Tampa, there is a true CHR, a Churban, an Urban, and an Alternative station with some live personalities. I'm glad that when I visit Pittsburgh I have lots of choices. I am a female over 55 ( don't look a day over 45 and anybody can come to the Maxon to check it out). I rock out to BOB, 3WS, WISH 100, and LTJ in the car and drift off to mellow dreams about "Walk and don't Walk" to the dulcet tones on JAS. On a good reception day, I love 770 days and 620 at night! Just don't let Washington take over my Medicare!

Hate to break it to you but Medicare is a government administered Health program.

Have things really changed that much? Back in the '60s, KQV was playing the hits and KDKA was playing some of them part of the day.

There was WAMO and expectations were different. Beside, there was 770, 800, 890, 1000, 1100, 1510, and 1520 at night.

There are more ways to hear contemporary music today than there ever have been.

What scares me is that they are now moving sports to an FM frequency and talk may be next. I have a feeling that if this is successful and other broadcast companies jump on the bandwagon [cause we all know they are like sheep, what one does the others follow blindly along] there won't be ANY music being played on terrestrial radio, except for the far left side of the dial where the college and non-profit stations reside.

There already is a talk station on an FM frequency here (WPGB 104.7).

If radio (even on FM) turns into all news, sports, and talk, that will be:

1. because it gets ratings,
2. because of the constantly increasing fees for music royalties,
3. because the public is increasingly getting its music elsewhere.

I still get my music from radio cause I'm a dinosaur

As long as you hustle down to National Record Mart to buy the ones you like, it's OK.

The one on Murray Ave. is gone

Take a trip downtown for the big one on Forbes, right off Market Square. Maurice works there, and they have that wall of oldies.

OH WOW! Think I can find something by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs or Jimmy Clanton or Pat and the Satellites ? When is Jim Pagliaroni going to be signing autographs?

Sure, then go across the street to Murphy's lunch counter and get a cheeseburger and a Coke while you look over the new Finest Forty.

The cashews at Murphy's smell fantastic. I like Woolworth's and McCrory's too. I just got the the neatest record by a group called Jay and the Americans. Gonna put it next to my cool wax by the Skyliners. Got to get to Kauffmann's basement to get a new black skirt. Tony is taking me to Savors Saturday night. We are doubling with Rocco and Rita. I love the last dance under the big glass ball. Then we might go to Oakmont to make out in one of the cut-offs. Hope Chuck Brinkman plays "Sixteen Candles'. Tony is a senior and says he wants to go in the Army. He'd look funny with no hair. He looks just like Frankie Valli-----oohhhh!

I don't know how you can smell the cashews with the horrible smell of the rotting deli stinking up all of Market Square- not just Murphy's.

Let's blow this cheese stand; nay, THIS HEAD CHEESE STAND and head to McCrory's!!!

I'm getting the distinct impression you may be one of those fast girls.

Yeah. The park police used to run us out at 11PM. They'd shine a light in the car so you had to get dressed. Schenley was not far from home. Now I'm at the JCC pool, the Maxon lobby, Starbucks at Forbes and Shady and the Maxon Salon. I like Frankie Day.
