Pittsburgh Radio on Cellphone Apps

After prolonging the wait, I have purchased a smart phone and like many others, I have scummed to getting the iheartradio app. And while I have mixed feelings about Clear Channel, being able to listen to WDVE while in my car here in California is pretty cool. However, I do wonder....

1) with this new technology, will Pittsburgh stations (and other local stations) are now going to be competing with stations in other markets such as WWSW now be competing against stations such as WCBS in New York or WKST competing against KIIS-FM in Los Angeles?

2) I have noticed non Clear Channel stations such as WORD-FM and WPIT on iheartradio. I take it these stations (owned by Salem) are paying Clear Channel to be listed on their iheartradio app?

Anyway, any continuing thoughts you all may have on this subject are appreciated.

My initial thought is why do I want to pay for bandwidth to listen to stations I can get over the air?

The PittsburghKid is in Cali. How does he maneuver in that horrible traffic with a 120-element Yagi swaying on his back bumper?

ahh.....duh, sorry!

Maybe I'll change my handle to Fred Bakersfield.

Ha-Ha! You guys are such radio nerds. :D

But in all seriousness, Freddy, when I am stuck in traffic I much rather listen to the music I want to listen over Pandora rather than what a radio station will tell me what I need to listen. Especially if that radio station (or the many stations in my California local market) play songs that I don't care for while I'm stuck in my car on a freeway during the commute home.

I listen to the FAN on the stream through Radio.Com when I am out of town and the synchronization with the spots is terrible. Forget for a minute that there are too many, they cut one into another halfway through and sometimes cut off a segment of the show in the middle. I tried listening to the CBS Sports network on the stream from the AM station in Baltimore that carries the network 24/7 and it isn't any better on that respect. I think they don't appreciate the number of people who listen on the Internet. Even when I'm in town I will listen on the web sometimes if it is easier.

Tommy.

I'm also out of the Pittsburgh Market myself now. I think in addition to iHeart, you should install TuneIn Radio which will give you Q92, 93.7 The Fan, 96.1 Kiss-FM, 96.9 BOB, 99.7 WISH, Star 100.7, NewsTalk 104.7, 105.9 The X and Y108. I also see some of the subchannels are listed too.

Also, in addition to Pandora, you should consider installing Slacker, which, in my opinion is better than Pandora for music selection.
