Pittsburgh's Music will not be the same?

Why cause 937krock plays most of the music this station plays is alot better than THE X which plays mainly 90's and newer stuff and sucky songs also. Dve mainly plays classic rock Why play 90's and current in the playlist at all DVE.

I want krock to live but i don't think its going to happen but i just want it to stay on air and krock plays everything that i like. I HATE THE KIDD CHRIS SHOW. Put music on air from 3pm-7pm and their ratings went down cause of the kidd show.

Well as of now, K ROCK is still on the air. The ratings started to decline before K ROCK carried the KIDD Chris Show. Your guess is as good as mine, when and if K ROCK will flip to an all talk format. I think it is going to happen way before April, because Bob O Reiley had his last show Saturday night.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Pittsburgh's music has been the same for a long, long time. Change does not go over well here in the 'Burgh. Visitors and new arrivals from other towns usually make the same observation about Pittsburgh's music radio stations, which is that they're all pretty bad. The best music format stations in Pittsburgh wouldn't survive in any of the major radio markets.

At live music venues, it's pretty much the same. Pittsburgh is one of the few remaining places in the US were metal bands still dominate the local live music scene. This is an old town, full of old people, who cling to old ideas.

"Pittsburgh is one of the few remaining places in the US were metal bands still dominate the local live music scene"

Of course, this isn't even close to being true.

"This is an old town, full of old people, who cling to old ideas."

And old people love metal bands, right? Better tell WJAS to get more Ozzy in the mix.

Of course, this isn't even close to being true.

So, in addition to being the boss of radio, you're also an expert on live music in Pittsburgh? What instrument did you say you played? Are you a guitarist or a drummer? What gigs has your band played lately?

And old people love metal bands, right? Better tell WJAS to get more Ozzy in the mix.

What does the musical taste of people who go to live music venues have to do with senior citizens whose Atwater-Kent radios don't get the FM band?

Do you even know the difference between going to a club to hear a live music performance and turning on the radio?

"So, in addition to being the boss of radio, you're also an expert on live music in Pittsburgh?"

Hey, you're the one who offered the blanket statement about the state of live music in Pittsburgh clubs.

"Do you even know the difference between going to a club to hear a live music performance and turning on the radio?"

No, you'd better explain that one.

Hey, you're the one who offered the blanket statement about the state of live music in Pittsburgh clubs.

And I stand behind it. The Pittsburgh music scene is dominated by metal bands. "Dominated" doesn't mean that 100% of the bands at 100% of the clubs are in the metal genre. "Dominated" means that there are more metal bands than bands of any other musical genre. When discussing the Pittsburgh live music scene (and not the bars in the suburbs, but the Pittsburgh music scene), you're discussing some variation of metal.

Completely off topic for a radio board

I suppose you're right about that. Since radio exists in a total vacuum, and neither influences nor is influenced by anything that takes place anywhere other than in a broadcast studio, no discussion of the musical tastes of the people who listen to radio stations that broadcast music would be on topic on a radio board. Especially in a thread titled "Pittsburgh's Music will not be the same?".

The "safe-n-secure" formatics of Pgh radio also translate to WDUQ, IMO. For a Jazz station, they seem to stay in the "old-fart-green-zone" of roller-skating Jazz during the day. Tony's stuff in the evening is generally better, but still on the safe side. What there is of a Jazz scene in the clubs in Pgh doesn't jive with 80% of what WDUQ programs, again IMO.

It would never fly in Pittsburgh, but a real Jazz station (KJAZ in the glory days comes to mind) would let me die a happy man.

But, then again, my "real Jazz" and another man's "real Jazz" are probably polar-opposites...and neither could generate ratings or revenue in PGH...sigh.

Here is what I don't seem to get. Is Paulsen replacing Kidd Chris? While my beagle could do a better talk show than he can, no one really said where Paulsen will go on K Rock unless I must of missed it. Kidd Chris made some joke about Paulsen wanting to replace him in Pittsburgh but it ended there.

no one really said where Paulsen will go on K Rock

That's because no one in here knows. I suspect that maybe the folks at Infinity haven't made up their minds yet. Personally, I think they'd probably want to put Paulsen on PM drive time. It's not because I think that they want to replace anyone in particular, it's just that PM drive time would be where they could best leverage adding him to their schedule. I'm sure they're paying Paulsen big bucks. Putting him in PM drive would give them the biggest bang for those bucks.

Oh Please DEAR GOD let Paulsen replace Kidd Chris- or Chris Kidd- or whatever it is.

Listened to him ONCE and that was enough. Never again.

We can discuss many things. We can discuss that John McIntyre is so out there politically you wonder if he should be on the airwaves at all. We can discuss that Paulsen didn't seem to have the enthusiasm he should have with his old WBGG show and that is why Stan Savran replaced him.

We could even be unreasonable and dig up times they yelled at their mothers and ran over cats with their car and made little girls cry!

We can even uncover some horrible plot that K-Rock will change into a format that uses these two to promote devil worship and pornography 24/7!

AND IT WILL STILL BE BETTER THAN THAT CHRIS KIDD GUY!!!!!!!!

Or Kidd Chris. I keep forgetting.

I don't really want to know!

I think it's actually been announced that Scott will be doing PM drive.

From someone who was involved in the decision to replace Scott with Savran on 970, I heard that some of their concern was that he didn't really want to do a sports show... big Steeler news would break, Madden would be all over it, and Scott would stick with whatever monlogue he had already written for the day, whether it turned out to be topical or not.

History will probably show that Scott, despite being a great talent, was only at his best with Krenn to balance him out.

For the sake of mankind, lets hope he does replace Kidd Chris. That is one thing everyone can agree on in this board. HAHA.

This is for you all?

I hope 937krock stays on air cause they have the best rock?

Well, I guess that about says it all, doesn't it?

Heard it from one of the higher ups today.

K-Rock officially changes format on April Fools Day.

It will be a talk station. So far, Opie & Anthony, Scott Paulsen, Kidd Chris, and possibly John McIntyre if the money is right, are lined up. All jocks now will either be terminated or used as fill in on remaining CBS stations.

No word yet on calls being changed or if it will actually be deemed a FREE FM station.

Will keep everyone updated.
